ETS not working.

Hi everyone. I'm new here and after hearing about this site wanted to find advice or answers to my question. Car in question is a 2001 Alero with the 3400 engine. About a month ago the ETS quit functioning. At least I think it did. Tapping the button doesn't illuminate the icon no longer on the dash. I pulled and checked fuses first and then checked the wheel hub sensors. My OBD scanner showed codes for the wheel hub sensor so I went and replaced both sensors. NOW since replacing the sensors my 'cruise' works again (I lost 'cruise' same time I lost ETS) but I'm still not getting any dash signal for my ETS. So, I am hoping someone here might point out what I am missing or what else I should look at.

So when you romp on the gas on ice do the tires spin like crazy or does your engine cut out? If the engine cuts out try pushing the button only once, then try it again. If the tires then spin the light on your dash is burnt out. If they don't spin I'd say the ETS off switch is bad. If they spin the first time I don't have a clue cause it sounds like you don't have any idiot lights on the dash.

Nope, no idiot lights on the dash. With the cruise control again functioning properly I'll ignore the problem for the time being and maybe pick apart the switch someday in the future.
Do the tires spin when I mash the gas? :blink: I've never, ever been able to get this v6 to spin tires and doubt this car ever will. It's a family car/daily driver and my wife drives it more often than I do. (she would give me good scolding should I ever attempt to spin the tires too :rolleyes2: )

NOTE: The dash light isn't burned out. When putting key to 'on' position, no engine start, the 'TRAC' light does illuminate.

I'd have to say your switch is bad then, and it isn't connecting when you go to turn it off.

BTW I have some pretty good Hankooks on my car with about 95% tread left on them, my car basically stock, and it'll spin those on asphalt no problem. I was talking about ice though where spinning your tires doesn't damage them.

ok, i know this is off topic but found that interesting. My father still has his original 1969 Buick Riviera GS. Been garaged for as long as I can remember. Has the 455 motor in and I remember a trip to Indianapolis we took for a Route 66 cruisers show. My old man grinned a funny smile when i mashed the gas for bit and literally watched the gas needle drop. :D

Yep, the 455 is a monster, and they like gas. The 430 isn't so bad, I'll probably get 18-20 at 65 with it, but it'll definitely still move. The 67 looks a whole lot different than the 69 though, and the 455 didn't come out until 68.

Actually I agree with this statement, the ETS on this car is just annoying, it doesn't actually help.

It's not a problem. I just wanted to know what made it work or not. IMHO I rarely if ever used the ETS. I asked my wife if she ever used it and her reply "I didn't know what it was for so I always left it alone". confirmed my feeling to leave it alone as well. Anyway - appreciate the feedback.
