I'm planning on lowering my alero. Its a 2000 GL1.

What springs or whatnot are good for this.

Have you tried searching about this? theres quite a few threads about lowering springs on here. I even remember a thread about where to buy them too.

If want something cheap look for the dropzone springs for grandam/Malibu I've used them and many others have also.

Did I search properly and see that HR drops 2.5" (sometimes up to 3")?
