View Full Version : The Official "whats my car worth" thread

So, some of our cars have hit the 10 year old mark and others are quickly nearing it. I've been watching the value of my car decrease since I bought it and the thought of a thread for us to keep track of depreciation occurred me.

Using Kelly Blue Book at www.kbb.com as the official website to serve as a control, list the value of your car in "Private Party Value". Include current mileage and the state where you live.

I'm curious to see if there's a variety of prices for similar cars based on mileage or geographic differences.

My car as of 3/21/11:

$2500 Good Condition
146,000 miles
Michigan

Car's worth whatever someone will pay for it, not what any book says.

I bought a MY2000 for $2250 in 2005, it says it's worth $1150 in "Fair" condition (I put that since there is rust that needs repairing) and $1680 in "Good."

Come buy my car for $1150!
http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/5012250878.jpg

Includes $250 aftermarket seats, GT3076R turbo setup ($1300), built engine ($1800), AEM boost/wideband gauges ($400), 62mm throttle body ($150), wheels and tires ($900), body kit (incl paint/parts $700), exhaust ($200), engine dressup ($300, MRZ billet caps were costly, and powdercoated IDI cover and fuel rail), MSD coil and wire conversion ($160), aftermarket headunit and speakers ($200), strut tower bars F/R ($100), drilled/slotted rotors and kevlar pads ($200).

If I remember correctly. Eek.

It was a 99 GL Sedan in ND, 110,000 miles when I sold it so it was worth:
Excellent $2,555
Good $2,305
Fair $1,805
I sold it for $3200 so I made out pretty good. KBB is just a base point so you know about what its worth, it really all depends on the buyer.
What I got now is worth $13,500, mint condition with 38,000 miles. I could get 15k for it today if I wanted to, i've had many offers from people that know its history.

how the hell do you have 29k miles

It was my Mom's car for the first 9-10 years of it's life. So it was only used 1-2 times per week and only to get to WalMart or the doctors (both close by) and garaged. When I got it, it only had 19K miles on it. My main car is a beater that I am trying to wear out so I can justify junking it. I don't drive my Alero in the winter when there is salt on the roads or snow. I mostly just use the Alero for out of state trips and occasional use until my beater dies.

Well we all know after market mods mean diddly to the value of a car unless youre trying to sell to a particular demographic. Despite my Aleros LA1 deciding it was time to retire, I still have the car in the garage as I drive the balt around.

Blue Book Private Party Value

Kelley Blue Book Private Party Value is the amount a buyer can expect to pay when buying a used car from a private party. The Private Party Value assumes the vehicle is sold "As Is" and carries no warranty (other than any remaining factory warranty). The final sale price may vary depending on the vehicle's actual condition and local market conditions. This value may also be used to derive Fair Market Value for insurance and vehicle donation purposes.

Anyone willing to pay $5,125 for it?

By the way I just sold (as in today) a 2001 GX Intrigue with 117k on it for $3,200 and the book value said it was $2,300. I had this car on Craigslist for an hour, I had 4 phone calls and 6 emails. first guy who looked at it bought it, used car market is crazy right now as in quick sales. So dont put too much faith in KBBs prices right now.

Nada gives better results than KBB as I've heard alot of dealers go by them instead.

They deduct for mods we do to our cars because it takes away from potential people they can sell to. When they raise the cost for mods they do its because we are ordering them.

No, I meant when buying a USED car from the dealer that's been modified.

A couple of years ago, I was at a new car dealer looking at their USED cars, and there was a raggedy assed looking Acura RSX some kid used to have, that had a turbo, ugly looking body kit, and paint that my little sister could have done a better job on with a PAINT ROLLER, and the dealer had it marked WELL over blue book due to it being modified.
