Sometimes when i start up my car my radio doesnt turn on. by random messing around i found that i had to unhook the battery ground and reconnect it to get the radio to come on. Any thoughts?

Have you checked the fuse? or pulled it out to check the wires?

Have not checked the fuse. I don't think it would be the wiring simply because all it takes is a disconnect/reconnect from the battery to get it back up and running. i will have to check the fuses. any other thoughts?

I wonder what relay runs the radio... does anything else not work when this happens?

Nope everything works fine, i remember having a problem back in Nov-Dec 2010 with the bcm doin crazy shit to my radio and dome lights but idk what ever came about that...

have you ever noticed your passenger floorboard wet or anything? I have an issue where the hvac unit leaks water and I recall someone having an issue where their BCM was fried from water damage. maybe yours is shorting out and resets when the battery is disconnected and reconnected?

checked all my fuses in all 3 locations... they are good. It happened again today so i checked the fuses while it was out and they are still good.

throw in a led or something on the power now and when it goes out, see if the stereo has power going to it. not a solution, just part of trouble shooting.

Well installed a voltmeter yesterday that requires a remote turn on. I could connect it to the power coming into the stereo i just need to know the color of the wire. Probably red eh?

You might have have a faulty chime/(RAP) Retained Accesory Power module if thats what was used when your radio was insatlled.

I doubt theres a way to test it, but I heard the schosce ones are a hit or a miss. Maybe try a metra module.

Have you tested the radio prior to putting it in to make sure that it powered up as it should? I would pull it out and power it up just to make sure it is in working order. Then I would check the connections on the RAP if you installed one. Once that was verified I would reinstall the radio checking connections, and verify that everything works. If it doesn't work then you know that the radio is good leaving the RAP as the problem and\or the wiring...i.e...poor grounds, poor connections, incorrect wiring. Wish you luck figuring this out.
