Sunroof thing?

Umm just outta curiousity...whats the bar that pops up after the sunroof slides back? is it neccesary to have??

First pic, driver side of bar of sunroof with plastic peice to stop the bar from being ripped back with the wind.



Second pic, passenger side of that plastice peice broke off..anyone kno how i can reattach it? after you hit 60mph with sunroof open the bar shakes and its annoying.



Third Pic. Why the hell is there velcro in the middle of the bar. anyone else have this?

i have the little clip on the driver side missing too! and does shake in the wind... depending on how much wind there is and stuff..... i could use some help on this too. :p

im thinking its a wind deflector? idk. when the roof is open it pops up and you hear a light wooshing sound, like if you were to stick a pen out the window.

If its pulled down with my fingers it sounds more like a hum? likes its an air pocket or something being created idk.

Dont talk to us like we are dumb. sure that might be a factory sunroof for you beacuse yours is newer and you probably have all the top of the line factory stuff in yours (monsoon system, power windows, shiny aluminum rims, all that fun stuff.) mine is a base model (crank windows, no lights on the mirror, manual side mirrors) all the BASIC stuff but a sunroof was an option that the factory handed out and mine got it. so congrats you might be right about your car but not ours. And aleros all had the same factory sunroof 99-04 they are the same sunroofs that were in cavaliers and sunfires too. I bet you even have a plastic ring that goes around the sunroof on the outside of the car mounted to the roof.

The velcro strap is probably to keep the bar from going up too high and flop in the wind but I can't say for sure its kind of a weird design.

That whole bar is just an air deflector to prevent buffeting. The "Velcro" there is most likely just a padding to prevent a rattle. It's hard to tell by the pics.

Also, I'd have to agree that it's probably an aftermarket sunroof. Could tell for sure by an outside pic of it. Or I could check my 1999 Alero brochure in the basement. I'm pretty sure it was never available on the GX.

mustangs are retarded expensive... my buddies gf has a mustang gt 99-04 with a full mach 1 swap in it... and he has a LS1 Trans Am, long tube pacesetters.. K&N air filter. Intake lid, SLP LM1, no cats, and a comp cam.. cam for his car was 300-400$... and he is pushing 400hp, we just got it dyno tuned today.

thats with a very old fuel filter.. it was running lean in fuel ratio.. possibly bad fuel pump.. and a completely shot o2 sensor.. and a cam for his gfs stang is 2,000$. thats retarded for a cam... and our other buddy with a true mach 1 has basically the same mods with a 2,000$ cam and the trans am has 20 more hp. AND also has 150k miles... i'll stick with GM.

99-04 Mustang GTs have 2 cams, where as the Mach 1s and Cobras have 4, Camaros only have 1 so thats why its more expensive to the mustangs. I've owned an 02 GT, 03 GT droptop and an 03 Cobra droptop and my dad had an 03 Mach 1 for a bit, I know the cars well and yes the LS1 camaros are stupid fast and cheap to mod but the chassis is about as stiff as a wet noodle and sitting in the car is like sitting in a cave.

Anyways we have now gotten way off topic, You could remove the bar but you will get some wind buffetting on the highway and such.

Yea my both my aunts and my step mom have aleros and they all have v6s with that sunroof. so maybe they put a different roof into the cars that had teh bigger engines? just my thought.

It's very different. The factory sunroof is completely flat when closed. The aftermarket ones have the black trim around the edges where it attaches to the roof.

oh yeah i know but just little things .. when the window opens on jrocs the trim goes with the window, he has a different switch, and doesnt have that bar that pops up when you open the sun roof... and sits flush. no big deal..
