So iv been looking into various performance things for my 2.2, on eBay you can get "The Blue Chip" for $15. So far dont see any big reason not to get it, more toque and hourse power for sure (or at least so it seems) and I'm not sure about the mpgs yet. I didnt get any of the negative side effects of it and have been "testing" it out recently so we'll see how goes.

I will say this once.... until the spelling improves to a tolerable level... i refuse to look at any thread/responses from Papa. It makes my brain hurt.

Sorry, I'm still working on this iPod typing thing. Can't type very fast at all. And I don't know, I don't really have a way to actually test and see how it's doing but after putting it in myself and my friend who was with me both noticed a difference. I don't belive the dramatic stats they say but I do think there was a slight improvement. For $15 I'll take it. As for "getting a true a CAI" I an aftermarket one, and then just put the chip on with it/ or were you just referring to the chip? But to my next question, what manufacture would you guys recamend for mid-high quality chips and various other items like that for these cars?
I'm really a noob to a lot of this stuff (and just a lot of car stuff in general) but with all things I like to try out a lotta crap even if it won't work. Thanks for the help though, you guys have answered a lotta questions for me in the short week iv been here.

There is no such thing as a "chip" for our cars. Theres no "latent power" that you can harness. You can do upgrades, then reprogram your PCM to reflect the mods and get more benefit that way.

But unless you have upgraded manifold(s), exhaust, header(s), and intake... theres no reason to spend any money on "chips". Its snake oil. All its doing is manipulating the reading on the IAT to show different values, thus making your fuel management system to dump more fuel into your engine, and faking more power.

there are no real "performance chips" for aleros...a performance chip is a computer chip that would be replaced in cars that use an EPROM PCM and would alter the processing code of that PCM...since the standardization of OBDII all PCM's are now EEPROM meaning they are electronically altered, not with a physical chip...therefore making a performance chip a thing of the past...anything you see like that is usually a resitor they tell you to install somewhere which alters the input voltage to the PCM from a certain sensor, and therefore hurts your engine more than helps...if you want to get the most out of your car while leaving it completely stock take it to a tuning shop and get it tuned, it's more expensive than your $15 magic chip, but it actually does something...a good tuner can add anywhere from 10-20 hp just from properly tuning a stock car

there's multiple threads involving tuning, but it's not an easy task...your best bet right now would be to go out and find a shop that'll put your car on the dyno for a few pulls and then tune your car for you...you have a lot more research to do before you can start tuning yourself, and im sure you don't want to drop $500 on HPTuners just to change a few numbers and blow up your engine because you dont know what you are doing

Ya...after my brothers grand prix cought my house on fire last year I'd rather not be blowing up my car in the garage...I love it to much. I'll look into it, thanks for the tips.

even before you start playing with tuning, you'll get better returns on changing out the basic parts first. intake, exhaust, manifolds...etc

Your probelm is you are looking on eBay for "performance" parts. Not going to happen. If you want performance parts, you're going to spend a little bit more than $15. That's life. By going cheap, you're wasteing you money on things that either don't work or do damage to your car or both.

i know that. iv looked through andys auto, carid, gm parts supply, and thats how found this forum was looking for different stuff. right now i dont have 3000 to spend on stuff i really want but i didnt see any harm in trying some other things.

not true at all, simple intake and tune on a stock car can make a noticeable difference, even a stock car tuned you'll be suprised, increasing shift points, torque managment etc etc lots of tables to be adujusted
