My blinkers have been giving me problems for the past couple of months. Mostly erratic blinking. Just tonight they died on me completely. After I press the emergency button and turn it off, the blinkers work temporarily. Any suggestions? What kind of shop would i bring this to?

Hazard switch was recalled. Give your GM dealer a call.

Yep, hazard switch was recalled. I had mine replaced about three months ago. It's still kind of weird to not have to bang on the dashboard all the time.

just wait...it also depends on the years. From what I've heard, the newer models don't short out.

I have a 2000 that was manufactured in '99. I have the blinker problem all the time, but I haven't gotten the official recall notice yet.
I have remedied the problem by keeping the heat on. I don't know why it works, but it does. It just sucks to have to do that in the summer.
Knobs settings that get it to work: blower all the way on, on the hottest setting and aimed at your face (as opposed to the windshield or your feet)

I had the problem as well with my 2000. I never received a notice about it either but my dealer told me they didnt seem to be doing any widespread recalls. Basically just replacing them as people bitched.
Mind you they also didnt want to replace mine because they said it could've been a faulty alarm install that caused it. They ended up doing it when I told them the alarm had only been installed the day before and the problem was happening before that.

I have a 2000 that I bought in April, so we'll see if I have the prob this winter, but I have to ask: Do you have led's in your signals. Not many people realize these cause problems, too. If you do, then there is a resistor that needs to be wired in to balance the electrical load. Just a thought.

Yeah, there was an official recall notice sent out to GA and Alero owners (I had the same problem with my '99 GA). Just contact the dealer and find out what needs to be done to get it fixed.
