Where is it? How hard is it to replace for a DIY guy?

My tranny been acting funny and I found while looking up parts that there is a Tranny Speed Sensor on our cars.

My car Sometimes, will now move, but the engine will rev and then the tranny will catch. Does this more when the car is hot and I turn it back on after being off for a few minutes (like running into a store to buy something quick, or after filling up with gas)

Speed sensor? Shift Solenoid? More I think about it I'm thinking Shift Solenoid, but where is that located?

Transmission history: Rebuilt in 2006, put around 70,000 miles on car since then. Fluid not burnt but had to be topped off a few times.

I might have same problem, when my temp gauge goes over half it slips into second gear. Dead on half temp or below it does fine, thats why at ASS i was thinking trans cooler.

Might be a silly question, but you do have it topped off right now right Red? And sleepy, you drivin a 3400 or Dual Overhead?

IDK, I don't have a level ground to check the tranny fluid at, at least level ground that I can get under the car

What you are describing could be low fluid, a bad MAF or a solenoid in the trans but I would check that level first. No codes I take it?
To add I believe the sensor you are asking about is on the drivers side of the trans, right beside the axle. You will see a two wire lead going to a sensor on the front side of the case, just inside where the axle mounts to the trans. But, if your speedo and tach are functioning there is no problem with that sensor

shift solenoid. had to have mine replaced last winter because it was doing exactly what your both describing. it would shift perfectly until temp got to half then it would start slipping into second. don't let it go like that for too long though. and it was a PITA for the GM tech to do so not sure about doing it yourself.
