I had put a cone filter with in place of stock and i went to unbolt the air filter box. When i lifted it up, i found everything rusted.

Very common, it's an engine bay which sees a lot of moisture.

I would pull out everything you can, sand that down to bare metal and then hit it with some "spray in" truck bedliner. Stop it before it gets any worse. Right now it looks like there is still a lot of solid metal there, but if you leave it, its going to get bad fast from here on in

I have judged cars at ASS for the last few years and it seems to be very common. As previously stated you should attend to this quickly to stop it from spreading.

im scared to take mine out now :No: BUT it could be a reason for me to REALLY get on this car and restore it. THEN i will win 1st place in whatever class im in! muhahaha....lol.

i didnt have any rust on the body parts, mine was all on the mount for the box, somehow. my car spent a few years up in Michigan in the salt and snow. im not the best with body work but he said ^probably should tend to it.
