Ok, so I actually have two of these in the family. My 99 2.4 is approaching 200K and actually still behaves pretty well, well had a sticky lifter recently, but a little oil aditive seems to have taken care of that.

My real thorn in the side is my daughters 2001 V6 version it likes to not start, now this isn't the standard passlock issue as there is no security light in play, and besides that stupid thing is bypassed with the resistor at the two pins opn the BCM connector, what it likes to do is then you turn the key if the check engine light comes on with all the rest then the car starts beautifully, however its a crap shoot as to wheter that lich comes on, so you turn the key off the back on until you get CEL with all the rest then procede to start. Getting to be a major hassle.

Anyone got a thought? I'm thinking ECM my self, but that's not exactly a cheap option, and is non returnable...

i had the same isssue a while ago, i spent 4 days trying to fix it, it turned out to be the ECM, so try that, and if that doesnt work just rest a 12 guage on the hood as a persuasion tool LOL

I thought about the ignition switch, but discounted that as there aren't that many contacts in it, and in both conditions; CEL comes on and engine startable or CEL doesn not come on so NOT startable, every other light still comes on; all the other lights come on... :(
