Alright, my dashboard leather is peeling back i assume because of the heat but who cares why. I just want to know if anyone else has had this happen and if so, how to fix it and how much will it cost?

I don't know how to fix it but my GM dealer told me a new dash would fix it at $675 so I too am looking for a quick fix.
Somebody suggested a vinal shop

I noticed yesterday that mine is peeling as well.. not really peeling but it has cracks in it. Maybe I'll replace mine with some hot pink fuzzy stuff.
lol yeah right. I'm going to call a vinyl shop one day this week because the nearly 700 bucks is too much to spend on a dash board.

if you end up doing it ur self use a good frabric adhesive that is leather safe.. someone i know decided to restaple their probelm and all it did was rip so they ended up buying a new dash so please dont go that route.. go to micheals or joann frabric or franks nursery and ask them for a good adhesive to use they can help you out alot

Mines peeling too, IF I remove the dash, local upholstry shop will revynl it for $100 including labor
But thats if I remove the dash, and with the instruction on here, it shouldn't be to hard.

Do all year Alero's peel? I have heard alot of people with this problem. I try to put my sun shade up as often as I can to try and prevent this from happening to my car.

i think it just depends on the glue they used.. some of the dashes (certian colors) they prolly dont have the right type of glue .. i remember reading something about this off of a search on yahoo a while ago. some guy had it happening to his dash and his ledges on his rear windows he was pissed off about it too telling people not to buy an alero and stuff. but yeah if you can find a place that would redo the dash for you for 100-150 or so thats a good deal prolly less if you go buy the leather from a fabric store first. i have a 2002 and i have had no problems but i also keep mine clean use "armor all" alot even just the wipes helps keep it clean and shiny and yeah the sun shade helps alot i got a really thick one shiny crumply alumisn lokin on one side gray denim on the other and its got like a foam piece in the middle was actually for an aroura since their windows are a bit bigger but fits fine in mine just two extra folds in it but it keeps the car cool (and my car is black) so every little bit helps

i know a junk yard quoted me at $250-$300 for a oem dash out of an alero....it was a shame to see em crushing an alero the other day while i was picking up some trim parts for a new project im starting, i did get some taillights outta the car, should have asked about the dash now that i think of it.

I feel your pain. After getting off work I noticed that my )3 alero dash had started to peel and wrinkle. The local GM dealer quoted 700 for the dash. I don't have the skill to fix this on my own, so I will have to look for a vinyl shop. Does anyone have a clue as to what to look under? I do have to say that this is a bummer, but I have a hard time placing blame on Oldsmobile. A car interior can easily get 120 degrees on a hot day. It was 94 at noon. I clean my interior alot but Have never used a sun shield. After today, it will have to be the next purchase I make.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I only have 3000 miles on my alero, and would like to begin preventing stuff. My dash already has a bubble down on the right side next to the glove box. Would a dash cover help, or look tacky?
A friend of mine has a 2000, and his is starting to peel, too. He is going to go to our local upholstry shop, but he is getting ripped off. They quoted like $300 to do his dash :(

^^ Yeah don't ever use the defroster or park in the sun :Noooo:
hey every one, my dash board is starting to bubble and crack.iv read over this topic and think it would be cheapest to take the dash out my self and take it to an upholstry shop.IMSOBORED said there were instructions on here how to take out the dash board,iv look but cant find them any where.can some one give me the link or how to do this.o ya and it all started when my girlfriend placed a cold drink on the dash for about 5min so steer clear of doing that.

I haven't had a problem with mine and mines an 01. When my mom had her 92 Lumina Z34 her dash peeled back right at the vent for the defroster. My brother took the dash out and used some super strength glue and pushed it back down. It held for the last few years she had the car.

If you plan on taking out your dash, keep in mind that you WILL HAVE TO remove your steering wheel. You can get a steering wheel puller from almost any automotive store but I bought three before I found one that would work for the Alero (they are different than most other cars). If anyone wants me to I will post a picture of what you need to buy.
dam you got to take off the steering wheel, and buy a bunch of tools.maybe i wouldn't be saving that much money by doing it my self.what if i just took it to a GM dealer and got them to do it,would they recover it there.i don't wont to even think about how much they would charge for that.

It's just normal hand tools that you need and a steering wheel puller. I'll post a picture of what I used and then what not to buy as well, it is very simple to do and can be done in a couple hours (removal and reinstallation)
