i drove, about 20 miles on a flat today without even noticing it. of course, the low tire pressure light DID NOT come on... (is that maybe because my abs/svs/trac lights are on?)
anyways do you guys think the rim is shot or what? i'm going to buy a new tire this morning...

dont know what the rim looks like. chances are good you could have damaged the bead seating area of the rim or even bent it. with abs and trac lights on your tpm is dissabled.

it didn't feel like your car was leaning ?

This I didn't know, but makes absolute sense.. I had 20ish PSI in both my front tires and the light never came on because of my ABS/SVS/Trac Off situation.

You won't know until the tire is removed. I assume that this was the right rear tire? I had that one go on my Escort there and it sounded like there was a helicopter flying above me, otherwise I really didn't notice it from driving.

Yup, get the tire off and have the shop spin the rim on their tire balancer if it looks OK to the eye.
I would also have the tire shop guys check the axle and the bushings on that wheel for anything out of normal. The wheel needs to be balanced when you install your new tire even if there's no visibile damage to the rim.

it was the left front. no there wasn't any noise or leaning, thank god i didn't take the highway :P the only thing i noticed was it pulling to the left. that's when i realized it was flat.
anyways i got it replaced along with another one that was worn out.. obviously the rims weren't bent or else they wouldn't have been able to do it!

if the rim is bent you can still put a tire on it. it may just shake or wear tires funny.

oh ok. i thought when a rim is bent it's completely unusable. that's good to know.

I had a tire 'blow' on my on a highway going at 90km/h. The tire pressure light came on along with noise, steering wheel shake and pulling. I got off the highway, and drove the next 2kms to the nearest gas station. Tire was shot but the rim was perfecty fine.
There is no way to damage/bend a rim by driving on a flat (except for visual damage). The only way to bend your rim is by hitting a pothole or running over something.

 :awesome:
keep in mind iwth a flat tire you loose the air gap between the rim and the ground. so its much much more easier to damage a wheel. plus if you drive it long enough you very well could end up riding on the rim and not the tire.

I would think that anyone dumb enough to be using those low profile tire and rims would more easily damage their overpriced rim.
Also, is it a steel rim or aluminum rim? I'm pretty sure you can't bend an aluminum rim, it will crack and chunks will come off. A broken aluminum rim would look more like this:

i run 18's with low pro tires, and my rims were over priced at 60.00 for all 4
and i have no problem with them

You can bend an aluminum wheel. Most of the time it cracks though..depends on how the wheel is made

I know, I'm saying its possible to bend an aluminum wheel without breaking it or cracking it

Also if your rim is bent (slightly) your tire will lose air pressure more because of the bent rim. In other words, you will have to put air in your tire every week or so.

It's cheaper to buy a new one or even cheaper to get a used one from a junkyard than it is to have it repaired (generally speaking).

The 'air gap' will make no difference if you are running on RFT (run-flat tires). 75% of BMW customers at my shop have at least one cracked aluminium rim due to stiffness that RFT tires give them. A strong hit on a pothole and a properly inflated tire won't save the rim from cracking. (255/35/18 tires in this case).

glad we all run on runflats like there toyos. having air in a tire is going to help keep a tire round vs a flat tire that is run on the ground of successive amount of time. simply put.
