smell......

anyone ever smell anything like an electrical short in their alero. The last 2 days just after i start my car i can smell, what i think, is an electrical short smell. almost like burning plastic. Im guessing its my aftermarket stereo. but i was curious if anyone experienced anything like this, but not linked to the stereo?

Nothing with my alero, my old car though the turn signal controller wires inside started burning or something... damn that smelled like poop.. there was also a small line is smoke coming from my steering console....

are you running subs? if so, how many watts and what guage wire you using to power your amp? I only ask cause i have a friend thats an idiot and used like... a 18guage wire for ground connected to the battery.. lol that thing started frying and melting into the speaker wires and stuff.. right through all the plastic..

ya, im using 8 gage all round so i think im fine, and im not running more than 1000. im pretty sure its not the amps. I think its the deck. the smell definatly origanates from the console area......

damn thats no good... i would go ahead and rip the console apart and pull it out... try to locate where its coming from

yeah that was my plan.....i was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar. Well off to rip out the console!

I have had the same problem, as a matter of fact while I was out earlier today I smelled what was seeming to be wires burning. It comes from the console but after I turned the fan off it disappeared. If it wasnt cold out and I had extra time I would rip the car apart to find it, but the wierd thing is this is the first time in the past 5 months it has occured, its been very sporadic since ive had the subs installed in July. I run a 4gauge wire on a 800watt system so I know that cant be the source. I will keep this topic updated if i find anything else out.

its not my stereo at all its my rear window defog!!!!
