there is a rod connecting a odd shaped thing on the left under the linkage to the thing i circled on the right. what is it? what does it do? and why does mine not work right?

its prolly for the key lock, you have to put the car in reverse to get the key out thats what it looks like its for

it was unhooked before i looked unto the center counsel. but if thats what it is for i wont worry about it. I thought it might be the switch for reverse lights. because i still havent figured out why my back up lights dont work. i even replaced the fuse.

if your reverse lights arnt working i would look into the reverse switch, its located on the trans and will typically have 2 wires running from it,
as for the rod you can test by either pulling or pushing it and see if the key comes out

on som of the trucks of driven iv the only way i could put them in revese is to put them in the first (side) of nuatrual and then go back to revers.e could i t have somthin to do withthat?

What year is your car? I can look up drawings tomorrow at work and report back....

that cable is for sure the key lock. when thats hooked up you cant pull the key out of the ignition until its in reverse. i'd leave it like it is now, i unhooked mine

as for the backup lights, check the backup sensor on tthe transmission for power

thanks. i will leave it disconnected. it didnt do anything when i connected it anyway. seems like the cable might have been to long or something.

That's how my car is. That little thingy is broke off too. It helps since my parking brake wont stay up. Also my reverse lights don't work either, or how should i say work at random. I remember them working one time at night.

thats unfortunate. i guess checking that will have to wait until the weekend or something hah. thanks! but if the switch was damaged wouldn't the car not go in reverse? or does that switch soley control the back up lights?
