View Full Version : Sometimes Jerks Into Second

Driving around I've noticed that on some occasions my car will rev further than it usually does in first (up to 2.5k or more, when it usually shifts around 2.2k) and then quickly jerks its way into second. It shifts the later gears just fine. It doesn't do this often and when I feel it is about to (revving too high) I just momentarily let of the gas and when I reapply pressure it shift nice and smooth into second.

I haven't found any rhyme or reason as to why it only does this some of the time. I am however taking it into the shop next weekend to get my transmission fluid replaced and an axle replaced so I can hopefully get this taken care of then as well.

Oh, it's a four speed auto trans.

driving your ecotec with it shifting at 2.2k you must not be getting anywhere very quick...I am not going to say anything about rpm because my driving style changes depending on how much of a hurry I am in or what mood I am in, however mine sometimes shifts smooth and sometimes not...i need to have the fluid changed soon as well though...last changed at 80-90,000 currently has 154,000...I also wanna get it tuned so that it shifts stiffer...the smooth shifts are sickeningly smooth, and i don't like to think about how hard it has to be on things, especially at higher rpm...if my tranny ever goes and i am not done with the particular car then I guess it is time to try and bring another manual alero into the world (looking out for a 5 speed in the area, at the right price I will make the switch)

Perhaps it does shift slightly higher than I think. I don't have my car right now though because my sister's neon is in the shop and she needed a way to get to classes today.

If it's the same trans as my 01 2.4. The 1-2 shift was always kind of wonky, even after new fluid. But on very rare times, i could get it to chip 2en in the rain. Man that thing great, other than the fact it would ride out 2en to 86mph

So I shouldn't be too worried then?
