I just wanted to make sure this was compatible with my Alero before I went ahead and ordered it.

Is this the K&N filter that would fit the intake?

you gotta get one that has the same diamter inlet to fit on your intake. best idea to do is just go to an auto store.

If you want a K&N filter, wait until you get the intake, then measure the intake piping and the size of the filter (height) and buy a K&N from those measurments.
You'll want to install the intake and see if maybe you can get slightly larger, but I would probably just buy one of equal size

That makes a lot of sense...I feel slightly less intelligent now :) It should be here today but I haven't made it home yet.

You should have gotten a coupler to get rid of the silencer that is on the TB

Can those be easily found separately from the intake? I'm searching around ebay a bit and it doesn't seem like they are. Either that or I'm dense, very possible.

i have this same cold air and it works very good and yes a k&n filter is easy to find

Thats a warm air intake. it will help but if you really want to make a difference pipe it all the way down. and about the best thing you can do for the 2.2 is take off that damn black box right on top of the throttle body, its extremely restrictive. I got an ebay intake then a elbow piece from autozone to make mine.
also, about any intake for the 2.2 will work, doesnt HAVE to be alero specific. as long as it looks about like whats in the pic.

I've got the basic intake in, it just looks like I may have to do what you did and grab an elbow piece to get rid of the black box there. It looks like you just got a 90 degree elbow and fastened that directly to the ebay intake? If so this should be relatively easy. I think there are two additional sensors that go into it though. I assume I'd have to drill out holes for those.
I haven't looked at it real closely but is there a how-to on removing that? I haven't come across any yet.

i don't think any sensors, there is a vacuum hose and the pcv hose which you could do as he did for the pcv port and put the little filter on it all that is for is to release some of the pressure from under the valve cover

There's three things wrong with that.
1) It's the INTAKE for the PCV system. The PCV valve is what releases the pressure (as it sucks the fumes into the intake).
2) By not piping it in behind the MAF, you've introduced an unknown amount of air into the intake, thereby bleeding in air that the ECU doesn't know about (didn't go past the MAF), thereby potentially causing performance issues.
3) That is STILL a warm air intake, being as how the intake sucks the hot air off then engine instead of the cooler air under the fender.
But eh. Whatever floats your boat.
I'd PERSONALLY opt for removing the silencer under the fender (it's there to help quiet the sound), and use a high quality panel filter. Besides, are you SURE that THAT'S the restriction? I mean, there's some cars that run a whopping 1 to 2 HP by swapping to a cold air intake .. which *ahem* is within the tolerancing for a back to back pair of dyno pulls.

Ya. Just a 90 degree elbow. I made a hole in the rubber coupling, then culked around it for the little air hose. The then put a breather on the valve cover so there was no extra hose.

ecotec doesn't have a MAF so you can delete that from your list of issues, nobody said it wasn't warm air intake

Is the diameter on top of the throttle body a 3" diameter or is it going to be 2.75" like my intake piping. I ask only because I am hopping between classes and I haven't had the time to open the hood and check.
If it's a 3" I know the Autozone in town has a 3" elbow but not the 2.75"

I got an elbow piece and that connects just fine, I just don't see a way to get the IAT sensor out of the old box. That and I need to get a tube for the mini filter.

Sorry, not the sensor. It's the little hose there that's coming out of the bottom right of the engine, I think it's a small tube anyway. Would I just cut that from the old resonator and silicon it into the new intake?

yep! I just drilled a little hole in one of the couplings, suck it in, silicon. works fine. you dont need a hose for the valve cover air thing. just get a mini breather filter to on there.

My mini breather wouldn't go on without a tiny elbow in there (the metal tubing of the engine was in the way) but I fixed that with some tubing I had. Now I just need to silicon in the smaller tube and I should be all set. You've been a big help, thanks.

sorry to thread jack, however I am only asking because i have limited tools here, what is needed to change the IAT sensor...I have fairly recently had it stall from that again and I can't help but think that it has to be at least partially responsible for my fuel mileage and the fact that it takes so long to adjust proper fuel trims (ex. got 30 mpg all the way to ASS after all the driving I had done for the week before was highway, then after the weekend of driving it kind of hard only got 25 mpg all the way home driving the same speed and route at the same or slightly slower pace)

Out of the stock intake I had to cut a little to get it to come out nicely but I only did that since I wasn't going to be using it again. I'd think it should just pull out with a good amount of force and wiggling.

I just need a new filter and a good cleaning under the hood before it gets much colder.

while I have a cone filter it is on the end of the factory tube, I just need to replace the POS sensor before it screws something expensive up

I wish there was a fast acting IAT for the alero. The one I got for the goat helped a ton. I'm sure if someone made one they would sell good for the alero.

16.99 plus tax...i haven't been able to check mpg stuff yet, however after driving it multiple times for a total of about half an hour all stop and go i noticed rapid acceleration and downshifts seemed to get gradually less laggy the first time it was on with it and the times after that it has seemed much better...Before I replaced it if I was going say 35 and stepped on it it would downshift to about 3250, die out to about 3100 and then slowly pick up, but now there is no dying back and it moves...Even if it is screwed up like mine was it isn't gonna turn it into a drag car or anything, but you will probably notice a slight difference in how it opperates

i know that this doesn't have to do with air intake, however I mentioned in this thread that I replaced the IAT sensor, well the car runs better but gets worse fuel economy...this tells me that I need to replace o2 sensors, would it hurt to get a cheap one to last until I eventually get my exhaust system

I couldn't tell you where I read it but it seems like the AC Delco ones aren't too bad. This is one for the ecotec (I don't know what engine you have) and it's only forty bucks, not too bad.
