My power steering pump is really making some noises. It seems to only happen when it's really cold outside. It's been in the teens at night and 20's/low 30's during the day... Not sure why it's having an effect on my power steering pump, but wondered if anyone else experiences it. Seems to work fine, just makes a lot of noise.

Have you checked the fluid? I know when its low it can cause it to be noisy.

may even try flushing it with ATF.

when I still had my alero, my power steering was noticeably louder when it was really cold... my mechanic said it was a combination of the fluid being much more viscous so its harder for the pump to move it and also he said since my car was higher in miles that my power steering rack was more worn and the internal seals are not as good, especially when cold. I'd say that maybe change out the fluid with a new, high quality fluid and see if that helps

Gah! I just replaced the darn thing last year and put all new fluids in! What brand should I use? Probably has something to do with the steering rack... I'm pretty sure everything else in the power steering system was replaced.
