Battery & Fuse Box Support

The metal bracket supporting the battery holder and fuse box in my engine bay is severely rusted (it hasn't started rusting out yet though) and I was curious if there are replacements available and if so how easy is it to replace? I won't worry about it much if I can't replace it but that rust gets all over my intake filter and I'm worried the rust might spread. I have enough little rust problems as is.

It's pretty easy to get out....the hardest part you'll run into is pulling that fusebox off of it. I think there's like 4-5 10mm bolts holding it on. I'm sure there's replacement ones.

Any idea what name it might go by? I'm trying to search around online but I haven't found anything. My best bet is probably to get one off a scrap yard Alero.

I did some research on this piece and found it not to be available. I went to the salvage yard and picked up a couple to have powdercoated. That is the worst area in the engine bay for rust. They are fairly easy to get out.

Thanks for the confirmation of their non-existence. Would a normal caliper paint or something similar hold up fine in the engine bay? I realize it won't be terribly expensive to have it powder coated but I'd rather not put that much money into something I won't see too often.

I would imagine that caliper paint would work fine. I would suggest drilling some drain holes in the lower parts of the piece. Water has a tendency to build up and stay there and then the rust starts.

Caliper paint works perfect....find a JY one...sand it down good, clean, paint. I did that with mine and it looks PERFECT. Always hated that rust area on my old alero.

Caliper paint may not resist rust properly.

I'd HIGHLY recommend a strip, prep, and power coat, followed by at least two clearcoat layers.

But that's a recommendation based on it's not so much RUST as CORROSION (what, battery acid doesn't corrode metal around it???)

I'd bet that VPI has some in stock.... I know I have the part number around here somewhere...
