View Full Version : Gas Smell HELP!

When i turn on my air i can smell gas when the air is getting pulled from outside, but when i turn it on recycle the gas smell goes away, today after i got home i opened my hood and i saw somthing wet, i got closer and smelled and it smelt like gas, my only problem is idk what the object is that is dripping gasoline, i need helping finding out what this is leaking gas, why it is, and how to fix it!!

thats the fuel pressure regulator. i get a gas smell to at first start up sometimes but doesnt last long. and i have no leaks anywhere so i dont see a problem with mine.

As sleepy said, it is a fuel pressure regulator. What happened is, the diaphragm ripped inside of it causing it to suck up fuel with vaccum.

All you need to do is buy a new one and replace it. Pretty straight forward job. They are relatively cheap too.

Sleepy- yours may also be ripped, just not visible like his. After your next drive, pop the hood and pull the vaccum line off, if there's gas in there yours needs to be replaced. There are other methods of testing it, but this is an easy way without certain tools.

Had one go in my 3.4. $100 fix if you go to a shop.

i just called a shop, they said part is $93 and labor is $185
the auto shops in the economy are so horrible!!!

Dude, It's two torque screws, a nut and a vaccum line. DIY it man.

i agree that you should do it yourself, very easy to do. make sure you relieve fuel pressure before you do it too. and to be extra safe, do it on a cold engine.

Assuming I have the right part. I see ACDELCO Part # 2171558 for $55.79 + postage at Rock Auto (Fits 2002-2004 Alero 4 cylinder engine)
