Thanks man although I only had one Alero, but like you it was my first car as well. The other Oldsmobile I owned was an Intrigue and you're right the V6 in that was nice and it was pretty quick too.

the 2.2 to v6 swap is a hassle, i also take back my statement. theres so many things that go wrong swapping from 4cyl to a v6 its almost not worth the hassle.

Noooo

Don't listen to him, its a major pita and you lose a lot of stuff that's hard to fix...like headlights, your remote, power locks, rear speakers. So far I've fixed the headlights..

Oh yeah, and when you get it all hooked up and ready to go, it won't start until you rewire some stuff...

You can make good power with the ecotec, and parts are much cheaper than a la1...but I still hate 4 bangers..

Thanks this makes me rethink this the ecotech is great overall

They're nice, but like others have said there is quite a bit you can do to the 2.2's to make them quicker. If you really want a V6 you could always look into the 3500 swap. I know there is at least one member on here who has done it, but it would still be cheaper and easier to mod the 2.2L.

2.2 to 3500 would be more of a hassle than 2.2 to 3400...

This is true which is why I said it would still be cheaper and easier to mod the 2.2, but we know the 3500 swap can be done and personally if I was going to swap from the 2.2 to a V6 I would rather have the 3500 over the 3400.

What can I put into mine to make it better

Personally I like the ecotec and the ability to add a number of aftermarket parts if I want to. This link has some nice information on aftermarket parts but it is a bit outdated.

Hey everybody Im new here and the owner of a 04 Alero. Im 19 and its my first car this car is awesome and couldn't ask for anything better. Car has a idling problem when the a/c is on but either from that car is awesome:rolleyes2:

I think the idle problem is common, at least I've seen it posted a few times, and it happens with mine too some of the time. Sometimes I have to shut it off and restart for it to idle properly. I'm not sure if there was ever a recall for it. I think it's a problem with the IAC when there's a load on the engine from the A/C and it can't adjust the idle properly. I'd be really interested to find out from someone who has a tuner if anything odd would show up.

Definitely not worth swapping in the 3.4L. Big hassle for no gain. Maybe the 3.5, but still not an easy 'drop in and go' type of swap.

Other than an intake, I wouldn't recommend trying to do too much to the 2.2. Just maintain it and be happy with it and it will serve you well.

The 2.2. does have good aftermarket support from intakes, header, cams, internals, but it's really all or nothing if you want to get better performance out of it, with the best route being turbo or supercharged and the dollars start to add up.

you could safely do the cobalt supercharger setup...the factory internals are rated to 250 hp before it starts to take away life from the motor

what kind of perks would i get if i added a cold air intake

03glgold
10-02-2013, 11:50 PM
mine isnt cold air yet but my ebay intake seems to have added lower rpm pickup...i havent driven distances to check fuel yet...i think any gains from the ebay intake would be improved by changing it to cold air instead of warm air
