Hey everyone! I'm new here, and have a few questions. I have a stock 2.4l twin cam coupe. I'm looking to add some mods, but I'm having trouble finding any. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Would this work? And I found a exhaust, it's $500. Any links on anything within the 100-300 range?
Thanks!

Just do some shopping online. Before your exhaust though, pipe a cold air intake down.

Well each mod supports another most of the time. Intake maybe 7.... header... 15ish.... exhaust could be another 15 do cams along with a ported head etc... your lookin bigger gains

Ah. Kinda of a noob here. Could you kind of explain the cams along with a ported head? Or is there anything I can read about it. Sorry about that

You gotta lot of learning to do. :)

Start reading in google. Lol camshaft or cam. Rotates in the motor and moves your push rods.

Head is a cylinder head. Its basically a major part of your intake/exhaust.

Except he has a 2.4 so its rockers... no push rods

And what he's saying is you can get different cams which provide more of a non economy car type valve cycle.

With the heads you can have them remove materiel for the intake and exhast runners aka "ported" so the air and exhaust can flow more freely. Together with the new cams this lets your engine breath a lot better. Which in turn lets you tune your car to make more power

no rockers
cam --> lifter bucket

Without boost, you won't make nearly as much power as easily or inexpensively. Air intake, ported head with bigger valves, camshafts, high compression pistons, lightened crankshaft, long tube header, and excellent fuel/spark tuning.

Dude, you need to do research before you start buying this stuff. Do intake, header, exhaust first. Then worry about the rest. You can't simply just buy a cam and throw it in....you need to upgrade other parts if you want to put a cam in. It's NOT cheap and requires a tune. Focus on the easy mods first then start looking into cams, ported intake, etc.

The two places that make parts for our cars is milzymotorsport.com and wot-tech.com. Both guys know A LOT about our cars and make some quality parts. A header for the 2.4 can be found pretty much anywhere, along with an intake and exhaust. When you start getting into building an engine the best place to go is milzy or wot-tech. had to edit cause i'm not 100% sure that wot-tech or milzy mess around with 2.4s. I know they could if they wanted but their sites have nothing about 2.4's. They specialize in the 3.4s for our cars.

2.4 stock is only 150... given that these motors are also found in j-body's you can find parts listed for cavalier/sunfire as well... check out jbody.org for more info on these motors...
intake-$45
headers-$100 (less if you can find some used, in good shape)
exhaust-$200+++ depends if you buy a custom borla or have something made at a shop...

for quick easy power, check out the 2.3 lgo motor and look into the head swap and "secret cam"...

Man how times have changed! It cost me three grand for exhaust alone and an additional twenty grand went into my full build. I paid 32,800 for the car and 25,000 into mods over the years I had it. Grand total, 60K!!
About to start on the Trans Am here and makes modding the Grand Am look like a cake walk! LOLOLOL

He build a stage 2 milzy motorsports 3400 grand am... he also was one of the first serious modders of this generation so the costs were more as the parts weren't full production yet ...
This is what he is referring to is how times have changes and the prices for modding these cars have dropped considerably ... my alero has just under half of the.mods Paul's grand am had yet 13 yrs later it has only cost me about $4000 total vs the original $25000 he shelled out

The ld9 is also cheaper for parts as more platforms have used it so the modding base is a greater group of people so more parts are made and readily available... with the 3400 there's 3 options... Mike, Ben, or dyi..

He was a milzy supporter back when mms was first starting up. From my understanding paul helped get mms up and running by wanting to mod his car through him. And the grand am sounded like flippin sexxxxxxx

And yes. Not much support for the 3400. And is pricey.

Well yea....obviously. 98% of the people on here want more horsepower. When you start modding though you want to make sure it sounds good too....unless you don't care that the car will sound like a riced out civic then go for it. Most of us on here want a nice sounding alero too... Like someone said earlier in this thread.....buy a nice muffler (do some research on what sounds good with the 2.4) then bring it to an exhaust shop and have them make you one. It'll prob be a tad more expensive than that pacesetter but it'll sound better and probably wont rust as fast as that pacesetter will. I was the first one on here to use that pacesetter exhaust and it actually sounded pretty damn good on my car (BUT i had the 3.4 so there's a big difference). That exhaust lasted me like 2-2.5 years of daily driving then it started to rust pretty bad. So i went with Borla (yes...i overpaid....) and i'm happy now :)

Guys, at 41 years old and the road Ive been down, I would never blow smoke up anyone's ass... believe me. I was the first customer to Milzy Motorsports to install everything he had to offer. Before me there were a couple of guys that bought things here and there, but I threw the kitchen sink at it. There was no such thing as an exhaust when mine was built. The car spent three days in an exhaust shop in Toronto having the system fully custom built. That was 70 bucks an hour, 10 hours per day. It took them an entire day to figure out how to get a 2.5" pipe over the rear arm without flattening it! The rest was the ridiculous price that stainless cost back then. My suspension cost me an additional 4 grand. Getting corvette hubs, designing the set up, and welding to grand am spindles, was worth more than you probably paid for your entire engine build. I am no kiddy here my friends. My calipers were 500 bucks a pop and brake pads cost me 600 bucks a set... so yea, Ive been there, done that.... My SCT carbon fiber hood was the first one made by CF tech... now 600 bucks, then 1,500!! In 2002 I bought Firestone Firehawk FZ50EP's, 2200 bucks for them to pass me four pieces of rubber, not even installed! You guys have it easy now with these cars. That is and was my point as Tim said here.
