Rim Size Change

My family used to have a Fire Bird that was killer fast. Only problem was the summer tires were bigger by a inch or somtehing then the stock tires that were winter or all year but we changed them to winter.

Ok the problem was when we drove it in the summer we were pulled over and told we were going 12 KM over the speed limit but the speedo said we were going the right speed. I can recal someone saying something about the tires hight could have caused this.

So my question is if I get 17 - 18 inch rims well this happen?

hardley if at all. now 19s-20s maybe. also depends on tire size that u put on ur rims

how would one go about fixing this problem? I want 17 or 18s with some of those really thin tires.

Depends on the tire, since it's the rolling radius that affects it. Any decent tire place should be able to get you a wheel/tire combo that will give you the same overall size.

with 17's get 45's, and with 18's get 40's.

i cant remember the exact stock tire size, but lets say it's 225/60/16. to get almost the same exact overall size, with 18's,(low profile) you would need 235/45/18. thats about as close as you'll get. and when your speedo reads 60, you'll actually be doing 59.3

and why would you want to get a skinny tire?? are ya made of money that you want to replace tires each time you go over a crack or a bump and bubble a tire or bend a rim
225/40/18 is prefect size and a good tire to run on a daily driver

Well what I meant by that was I have stock tires that are like 4 inches high. I would like to get some that are about half that. Maybe even some of those tires that if you get a nail in them they don't blow or lose air. I know they cost a lot we had them on one of our other cars and they worked great.
