Hey Guys

For those of you that switched to a 180 thermostat from the stock 195 did you notice any difference in MPG? I know on my Z28 that I had when I went from 180 to 160 I lost some mpg :(

I would like to get the alero down to a 180 since I think 195 is way to hot but I dont want to sacrifice mpg to do it.

the only way it would hurt mileage is if you went all the way down to a 160, and the reasson that would be is cause the computer thinks the car isnt warming up so it adjust everything to run more rich and such. dont go that low, a 180 is fine just no lower.

Cool. I didn't know you could change up thermostats. Learned something new today...

how often do you guys change thermostats? Does going to a 180 effect the heat in the winter at all? I wouldnt think so? thats still what most cars come with.

The heat is not effected, but the time it takes to get to a temperature that a 195 gets to is slower. It doesn't make an operating temperature lower it makes the coolant flow start earlier. Currently I have the thermo installed and I appreciate the cuts I got from it from installing it. I used to run almost to the 3/4 mark in Summer and now it stay below 1/2 or just a hair over. I think it is worth 12 bux and an hour

mine usually sits right at the half mark, maybe its already got one? it only has about 18,000 miles on it though so i doubt the previous owner would have bothered (rental car company)

I have a 2000 V6 without the 180, and I run at the 1/2 mark. On really hot days it may get a little higher, but that's it.

wow, if you ran near the 3/4 mark, then something was really wrong with the car, besides the thermo. My car never gets that high, even in the hot summers down here in Florida, and I still have the stock thermo. Possibly intake manifold leak?

How hot does it get down there....and when I say 3/4 mark thats rounding up its above half but I can't get it to the 3/4 mark even hot rodding it. I was speaking of summers like 105 heat index and such here.

Okay, that makes a little bit more sense. I was wondering.
