Since some people didn't want to register over there, I'd copy it over. Unless thats a problem.

This is a real easy job, and there are many ways to do it.. just sharing the way I did it. Post up yours if you want ! Simple, two wire hookup. First, disassemble the housing you get..

Entire assembly

Carefully pull the wires out of their home and you'll get this.

Next, drill two holes (or one, doesn't matter, just make sure the contacts are not touching) through the brake light housing. You want to do this on the side where the original power plug would go. If you were holding the CHMSL as it would sit in the actual trunk lid, this is the bottom left.

a few more strategically placed holes and cable ties to hold the piece in.... also take note to clean the crap off your carpet from making holes at this point too. I trimmed the board juuust a hair to get it to fit good.

Insulate the pins with a little tape, so just the very end thin part is not covered. Remount the stock CHMSL assembly, insert these pins in the stock plug - black to black, red to green. Use a little more electrical tape to keep it snug..

Finished product... kind of a bad angle but you get the point.

(And thats the end of the GAGT thread on how to do this.)

I dont get what they are doing its not very clear, are they taking the "guts" out of the impala light and putting it into our housing? IS it our housing that the holes are being drilled or are they simply making the impala housing to fit the Grand Am

and Grand Am and Alero are the same I take it?

Yeah, they are taking the guts out of the impala and putting it in our housing.

As for Grand Am and Alero being the same housing, I'd assume so. I don't know for sure, I'm just copying over the thread for those who wanted to see it and didn't want to register over on GAGT.

PM iceman, this is off of his car, he is a member here. If it's the same iceman, that is.

yes tenny, this has been done on grand ams and aleros, the housing on both will allow for an 11" led board, which is right about what the impala/monte carlo 3rd brake is at.

the holes drilled are in the alero/ga housing to run the wires from the impala led board out to the plug in your alero/ga.

what year of impala/monte carlo has the led's in the brake light?

Where do you get the brake light? Ebay has 3rd brake light overlays, but thats all I found on there

How much is the part, and where can I get it. I think this would be a pretty trick thing I could do to make mine different than the other million aleros I see on the road.
