Hey guys, just wondering what was the first year that the Saab started using the ecotec for their boosted engines, and if anyone knew what size/type of turbo they had on the Saabs? Also, was the boosted Saab model the 9-3 A ??? or was it something else.

I think 2003 was the first year Saab used the current ECOTEC (they had an older 4 cylinder ECOTEC before and still use a V6 ECOTEC in their 9-5) in the 9-3. All 9-3's used a turbocharged ECOTEC, but the 9-3t was a "low boost" model making 175HP, and had a pretty small turbo. The 9-3T (capital "T") was higher pressure, I think 12psi, and uses a larger turbo. The 9-3 Linear uses the "9-3t" low-boost engine, and the 9-3 Arc and 9-3 Aero use the higher pressure "9-3T" high-boost engine, and the 9-3 Aero is available with a slick 6 speed manual that I want in my alero. :P

As far as the A/R trim on the turbos, I don't know, you'll have to go find a Saab forum (there arent many good ones) and ask there or search the forums for the specific info...

It'll bolt right up to the ECOTEC, but you'll probably have to have custom mounts made, as well as custom-length half-shafts, and the shifter assembly from the saab along with modified shift cables because I'm sure the length is different as well. It's a fair bit of work but not too difficult for somebody who's done the sort of thing before...

get a manifold of j-body and use injectors of the saab thats what im doin. its cheaper than buyin rc's. i have a total of about 1k in my setup and all i need is the tubing welded up

I think he just meant get a turbo manifold off of j-body.org, since there are several businesses on there that sell them.

j's use the same manifold. we have more room than they do. they are just a smaller version of our car. so the turbo will work. or you can make your own if you can weld stainless for about 200.
