If you name is not on this list then I haven't received a PM from you. If you would like to be added please PM me ASAP. This project is going to move ahead at a very fast pace so if you do not have access to the cash at this time please PM me and you will be removed. Please remember that I will be accepting Paypal for this as well. So, CC's are good.
You have two ways to proceed at this time.
1-You may pay for your hood up front and before it will ship you will have to pay for your shipping.
-or-
2-You may forward $300 up front and pay the balance w/ shipping charges when your hood is almost ready to ship.
Either way you choose, these payments will need to be sent by 16th of October. If any of you have an issue with this policy please PM me.
I kid you not that this is going to move quick. The hood is being fabricated as we speak and then the molds will be made. I truely expect these to start shipping by the end of October. So lets do this guys.

any ideas on price for the carbon fiber hood? I know u originally thought $600 but then prices came in at $550 for the fiberglass.
FormulaNERD
10-01-2004, 10:08 PM
keep me on the serious list, any hints at a more accurate price? for both CF and fiberglass? would like to know the cost of the hood, and the adjusted price to pay off the cost of getting the molds.
Crazytaxi37
10-01-2004, 10:11 PM
CarbonFiber pricing I will have in a short short time. I needed to get them the hood before they would quote a price and I dropped that off yesturday. I am not expecting the CF hood to exceed the fiberglass version by much, I'm shooting for $650 range.
Fiberglass is going to remain at $550 and I believe it will stay right there.
And yes it is always good to have more.

For a realistic shipping cost please refer to this link since they are located in the same area of the country. I believe I can beat their rate too.

Do you know how big the box will be? My g/f brother just got a new hood for his 90 mustang and the box was bigger than a standard house sized garage door
Also is this ready to be installed? I mean the holes for the hinges?

Since I didn't follow this, as I wasn't interrested in a CF hood...
What year is this off of? The '99s don't have hood props, and my '01 does, so I'm wondering if I'd be able to prop up the hood or if I'd have to get my car fitted up like a '99?
Thanks
Crazytaxi37
10-02-2004, 02:06 PM
This is a hood prop hood. If you don't have one you will need to get one. I will get a hold of the part number and supply that for those that will need that.

^^ I won't be able to have more than 1 hood delivered here. I talked to my mom about it and she freaked and doesn't want me to get it done <_<
Althought, that isn't stopping me, I have 2 options.
My mech or the local body shop. I can get the hood painted, go back, get them swapped, and put the stock hood in my storage locker
Bdyman is the poislh ninja, I am the Philly ninja
The good part about that is my mom won't really notice a 2 inch cowl. If it was a 6 inch, I'd get bitched at

Hey crazy is this a one time deal, or are they gonna be produced continuiously
Cuz i know i don't have an alero anymore
But i am considerin goin to the local auction and pickin up another one next spring.
Cuz it'll be 2005 then and i'll be able to buy a 99 with high miles for next to nothing.
and just start from scratch, and not have to worry about havin it for a daily driver.
and if i do that i'll definatly wanna throw down on onea ur hoods

Find a nice sunny day and take your hood off then drive up here and we can put the new one on for you. If you need to get it painted you can always switch them out again.. It may be too much trouble but I am just trying to save myself a buck or two. It sux you dont have a place to hold the hood for 24hrs or so till i could get down there.

We are looking at running our own delivery for the midwest. But, only for general areas. Such as St Louis, lower Michigan, Chicago, and the twin cities. Only if there are enough people in that area to pay for renting the truck and paying the driver. I don't see how I could ever transport an addition hood to your meet unless I didn't bring the alero.

Okay, sorry for the nature of this post, but im at school and dont have time to look through the thread. How much is both the fiberglass and carbon fiber. Im totally interested in this, and looking through it breifly I noticed that some people lived in Evansville and such. I live in Southern Illinois, a town called Carmi, so I'd be willing to help in any way possible with shipping, or picking up hoods with local people here. Thanks for the help, and sorry for the laziness, but its just lack of time.

Right now its looking like 3 definetes having them delivered to st. louis for individual pickups. Just got a check for $750 from USI today so I am a guarantee go on this Crazy! Is the hood funtional ??? Does it rought the air to the air filter, or is it just for looks ?? I'd be more intrested in a fiberglass hood then a carbon fiber one.

the cowl allows air in, but i wouldnt say it's routed anywhere. it's mostly for looks and weight reduction.
just curious why you would want fiberglass over cf?
justinusaf
10-09-2004, 11:57 PM
It seems to me that there are 3 reasons for this hood
1. Carbon Fiber weighs much less than Steel
2. Allows more air to move throught the engine bay thus keeping it cooler
3. Looks damn good.

First off, I really don't know a whole lot about carbon fiber. Can it be painted too match the rest of the car with out anyone being able to tell it's not steel from looking at it ??? I like the cowl hood, I think it'd look really good on a Alero. I just don't care for the different color you see on alot of the ricer cars (White car, black hood)

far as using hood struts........
they can not be used. they use another bracket that is spot welded in 4 places and being that this is where the strut mounts too for the top. there is no way to get this on either the glass or cf hood. so those of us with the struts have really no choice.
the glass and cf will use the stock latches. far as hood pins well that would be a added cost if they would do that. but i would recommeend doing yourself that way you can put them where you want rather than have to make special brackets to get the pin part where the pins are that is if they put them in a decent part.

Hey fellas. I just wanted to say to everyone who was considering purchasing a carbon fiber hood but decided they might not be able to because of the price, please at least consider purchasing a fiberglass hood! Gregg is putting an incredible ammount of work into this project for us all, and we really need to support this project as much as we can if we want other things made for Aleros. And honestly, if you can afford the Carbon Fiber hood, go for it! The price is in line with carbon fiber hoods for many other cars, and considering that there is not a HUGE market for these products, it is actually still a very good deal. But if you can't afford CF, the fiberglass hood is also right in line with Mustang fiberglass hoods in pricing. I'm glad we made it this far, now lets see this thing through!

Yeah, I'm definantly coming out of this with a hood, dunno which one yet. I'm still hoping for the carbon fiber one.

The materials are 375? :huh?:
Not for a hood with the underside that isn't poorly made. Plus, they have to make a mold for the hood, which costs a lot. They need to make 15 or so CF hoods just to break even in this project.

I've been worried about this all day and have been on the phone with them both today. Being at work and not knowing what's going on sucks. Thankyou all for your support.
I do want to explain a little bit about what Simulated CF is exactly. I know we all have seen parts labeled as Simulated CF and they don't look at all like the real thing. Let me break it down for you all. Instead of the CF weave that would normally be used. A black/grey fiberglass weave is used instead. Maintaining the same appearance as the CF version. The only difference in the hoods is the wieght. The simulated CF runs at the same weight as the Fiberglass hood. I just wanted to clear that up so everyone can make the best decision for themselves.
If anyone needs to change what type of hood they want that has already paid please PM me and I will take note of it. If there is anyone who has already paid that feels that this is not for them at this time or later, please contact me and your deposit will be returned to you asap.

Not backing out of CF at all. I want the real thing. Anyway, I'm tired of hearing people gripe about pricing for this. They say, "How come you can get a hood for about $400 for a Honda?" Well, have you ever seen a cheap CF hood? They do not look very strong at all. They have no frame underneath and they are easily bendable. Plus, like Nick said, you have to drill holes in the hood for pins. Why would you want to do this to something that you just laid down a bunch of money for? Another thing, I haven't looked at buying a brand new stock hood, but I'm sure their price is pretty near to that of the fiberglass one.
Gregg, thank you again for sticking with this. You give the Alero community the hope of having more aftermarket parts available than the Grand Am.

i know some of you may be skeptical, but if youve seen the work that these people put out you would re-consider...i have seen their work...( a saleen stang at the last carshow i was at here in sheboygan) it is nothing short of phenominal, and their attention to detail, and not doing anything half assed means that the alero community will only benefit from people like them and Gregg for spearheading this project.
.......i dont think i need to mention of another guy (on the GAGT boards) who got turbo kits for the 3400 going, with very impressive results!
its people like this that hang their ass, and more on the line that make me respect and admire them for what they are trying to do for US, as an alero community, to make us love our cars even more, no matter if its a final 500 or not...its the last model OLDS has ever made

I spoke with crazy, and things are going smoothly. He has been working a tough schedule the last few weeks. I'll see if I can get him to update within the next couple of days.

I'm not regretting this one bit! Is the red in the carbon fiber close to ruby red? That would be awesome if it is. Then there would be no need to paint right away for me!
Crazy Ill send money on the first or second to finish up what I owe.

Hey, Crazy I have a question about the bottom. I think its probably just the picture but I want to make sure. When I look at the underneath side I dont see the cowl. I figure its just the angle of the shot but the cowl is fully functional ie air flow through the opening directly over the engine correct?

I still think it looks great, but I am a little disappointed it isn't functional. I guess noone including myself thought to ask before.

11-17-2004, 05:40 PM
Looks awesome. I think it would be easy to make it functional becuase it is hollow? all they would have to do is add some kind of ducting inside the hood forcing the air over the intake spot which is the same place no matter what engine you have.
flalero
11-17-2004, 06:56 PM
Looks like you could make it fully functional. Just have to do some cutting.

structrual integrity. It is difficult to make a hood that uses the stock hinges and hardware out of fiberglass or carbon fiber. It needs a structure under the hood. Otherwise, you'd need to get hood pins.
Oldsman
11-17-2004, 10:44 PM
also it would cost more. you need more molds to make a functional hood and last i checked crazy was not on the list of millionares. Unless someone else wants to send some major cash his way for getting the extra molds made and then most of you would bitch that it cost too much for them.
You should be happy they are being made at all.
FormulaNERD
11-17-2004, 11:06 PM
well if it's about structural integrity, cutting it to make it functional is a stupid idea.

Crazytaxi37
11-18-2004, 12:51 AM
Like Oldsman said. To do this hood as functional would cost twice as much in molds. This is the reason some hoods for the Grand Am are $1000+. After delving into this project I know a lil more than I used to. For the cost that went into that hood, it is priced right where it should be.
As for this hood being functional, it is not. The Cali Edition hood wasn't either. Sorry.

If it wasn't cf I would really have a hard time justifying making the purchase. Im not much about my cars looks. I've always been about performance. Not having a functional cowl kind of takes the point of having one away from me. To me its akin to having someone molding in a hood scoop albeit the cowl in this case looks awesome. There is just something about having something that is just for looks that really doesnt do anything.
Were they able to get weights of these hoods?
Don't get me wrong Greg, I really appreciate all the work, time, and money that you have done for this project.

i have a few questons. how hard is it to install? how many peeps do you need to install? also what color is the blue tinted cf? i have the midnight blue alero and if it is dark blue tinted i will go with it. but if it is light i will go with regular. pm me with payment details.

it uses stock hood mounts... a few easy bolts. could probably be installed yourself, but for saftey reasons i'd reccomend 2 ppl, one on each side.
Oldsman
11-24-2004, 06:50 AM
well blue cf will look like any blue cf. it will be blue and black and it would look good with the midnight blue.
far as install, 4 bolts, 2 people then just install 2 more bolt for the latch and check alignments of the hood withe the fender.
piece of cake.

having changed hoods on the alero quite a few times two people is nice but three is the best, two of you buddies can hold the hood up and you can just concentrate on tightening the bolts and getting it all straight and good.....

Thanks for answering that guys. I would recommend three for safety reasons. Not your safety but the hoods saftey. :D
The Blue/Clack hood will look tight on your car. Not to mention the material is already ordered for it.
