I recently acquired a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS coupe. This car has been in the family since January 2002, previously owned by my uncle, and then my cousin who inherited it a year or so ago, who then passed it to me because my daily driver blew up.

It's in good overall condition and essentially stock. I pretty much plan to keep it that way, although I intend to repair and restore some mostly cosmetic items, namely the peeling dashboard, drooping headliner, and flaking clear coat. A couple functional items such as the stereo and the hazard light button need some attention as well.

Interesting features of my car are the unusual '442' logos on the doors and trunk lid. I know such cars are said to exist as a prototype show cars, but I don't believe it has anything to do with those. The dealer paperwork has it written up as 'striping appearance package'. Still, it is fun to jokingly refer to my Alero as my Olds 442.

Hello alero442,
The decals surprisingly look good in my opinion. The car seems to be in nice shape judging from the photos. Hope it treats you well

I thought so too. I need to fix the logo on the driver's side door. It's had some "deer damage" on that side and I wondered if I could touch it up with some pin stripe, but I have seen the original decals available online. It should probably have a decal on the front driver's side bumper for authenticity but I don't think it would look right on there.

Thanks, I dig the decals too. I just wish it came with the 4 barrel, 4 speed (I guess it does have a 4 speed auto though) and dual exhaust the 442's should have!

It's treated me well, after the first day of ownership. It tried to kill me on the first trip home. I didn't think the brakes felt right when I got in it, and the pedal got really squishy, and then no pedal at all. Luckily I coasted to a stop before a very steep mile long hill.

And, thanks for the welcome guys. I'll try to update if I make any notable progress or have anything worthwhile to contribute.
