hey guys,
I bought a set of new front speakers today, they are phoenix gold tantrum 4" speakers. I went in to pickup a set of the octane series in a 4x6 but they didnt have any so he gave me these instead. he said they would fit in fine and they would sound better because they are a circle shape not an oval. Is all of this true?

no not necessary........all that depends on the speaker, power capability, mounting, stuff like that.........if you dont plan on getting subs and still want semi decent mid bass response from the speakers you will need an adapter to go from 4x6 to 4" round.......leaving the holes in the side will pull away from that......

They'll fit in fine, but you'll need to fab up some baffles. They should sound great though. One thing though, If you're gonna go to the trouble to make some plates to fit the stock location, maybe find a set of tweeters to put in there too. ( kinda like a plate speaker. )

well heres what happend, i called the place up and asked what they had in 4x6 speakers and he said phoenix gold octane series for $119 cdn, so I drive out there and when I get there he goes to get the 4x6 box and there is nothign in it. So he checks the next model up the Tantrum and all he has in it is a 4" so he says he will give me that for 100 bucks cdn and that it will fit fine. He said it will sound way better then the 4x6 octane would.
it does have a tweeter already, so not sure if I would still need another one? it's a 2 way speaker.
Also what mounting kit would i need?

i think youngblood meant a seperate tweeter.........
and you will need something that screws into your stock 4x6 housing that you can screw you 4" speaker into I think stereo places sell them or you can custom make one your self........

No, I'm assuming what you bought were coaxials. I'm just thinking that if I were in your shoes, I'd put some extra tweets in there. They're cheap, easy to hook up, you won't see them, and you can always unplug them if it's too overbearing. You already have to fab up mounting plates, that's the hard part. Adding extra tweets is a walk in the park, especially since you'll already have the doors apart. Good luck with the install man, keep us posted.
