looks like you painted the entire rotor, and then drove it to get the paint off of the braking surface. not safe! :)

well at least you used the OLD pads to get the paint off, then put the new pads on.

yeah i didnt want to srew-up my new pads and I drove it short distances each time so the brakes wouldn't get hot enough to catch fire! It was the only way i could think of to do it?????

sounds like a good idea, maybe just a little too much work. i think when i do mine i'll just cover the braking surface with a cardboard cutout or something.

I took the time to MASK my rotors when I did that.

I didn't "MASK" mine because i wanted the outer edges painted also, I dont know long it will last but it looks good with just the "pad" portion being silver.

i repaint my rotors every spring, when i change back from my winter rims to my summer ones. i don't mask it off because i paint the outer edge too, and have never had a problem. The only think is that for the first week or so you can smell the paint kinda melting off the pads when you stop. I don't think the high temp paint will catch fire, it hasn't for me in 4 years of doing it.

You dont still have carbon-metallics on there now right? :o They eat a rotor up and you will eventually have a lip on the outer edge....ceramics are better and closer to stock...stock uses a ceramic-organic mix, but carbon metallic are made cheap because they stop well, have bad brake dust and eat rotors in contrast the ceramics have less dust and hold strong. :thumbsup:

Next time use breake cleaner to take the apint off rotors.

so its safe to paint the entire rotor!? with caliper paint, and then drive around for a while and get that effect? did the pad grip the rotor well at all?

^^^ i used my old pads and drove short distances to get the paint off of the pad/rotor contact surface, i drove ot about 4 times then put on my new pads.

now what is gonna make you lose stopping power with new pads and no paint on the rotor? i'm confused at why you're still asking this question.

he used his old pad long enought to get the paint off the rotors, then he put the new pads on, having paint on the rotors would affect stopping, but like he said he didnt drive that far.
