Ok driving home from work tonight the car didn't seem right. I getting on the highway And the first to second shift took a little longer than it should of then it shifted hard. Then it shot up to about 5500-6000 rpm in second but it would not shift, then engine would start slowing down. It would only shift when completly got off the gas. Third gear had not power except for when it was between 3000 and 4500 rpm. Move ahead 10 min. I get off my exit wait at a light than it turns green. at 2k the engine shrugs, sputters and actually slowes down than a few seconds go by and bam it shoots up to 4500 then sputters than goes up to 5500 holds there for a few seconds and slams into seconds gear actually chirping the tire. Second gear does teh same thing on the accelerating untill I got to speed and I had to get off the gas to get it to shift. There was also a horrible smell that I could not explain while this was happening. No lights came on though on the dsh. I have a 2002 GL with the 3400 auto and it has exactly 61042 miles on it. Any Ideas??????

I would just skip the tranny shop and go strait to a dealer becuase alot of Tranny shops and mechanics wont deal with electrical problems.

sounds like the shift control valve.

once again the search function prevails.

I bet its some kind of sensor. Also what you were smelling I bet was sulfur from the cat. converter.

Well now it just sputters through the hole rmp range than when it gets to 5k it revs down to 3k than backup then back down and it keeps doing it till you get off the gas. I'm driving it to the dealership I work at tomarrow morning to see whats up.

Well I droped it off yesterday morning and told them I was going to wait on it. Well 4 hours later I find out that they just parked it in the service yard and had not even asigned a tech to it. When the customer service rep found out about this hes went back there to complain on my behalf. To make a long storyshot I was put on thebottom of the list because i'm an employee. He almost got fired fror that as it is the procedure when employees are working but I was there on my time off in plain clothes. They finally got to the car to day at noon and it turnes out the cat is plugged up tight and suposedly the oldsmobile warrenty is replacing it. Enterprise also took a while to get to me so they gave me a free upgrade from a base model malibu to an Trailblaser LT
