Anyway, I was planning on going to the dragstrip this friday night w/ some friends, but now I am not so sure if it'd be worth it. I was forced to put my 15" steel wheels back on but I noticed there wasn't a HUGE weight difference between them and my 17" that I took off.......are the 15" steel wheels gonna hurt me a lot (or any) as far as 1/4 mile times go?...i know they suck ass at cornering, but I'm obviously not going to be making any turns while racing. Please let me know ASAP because if I go, it's the day after 2morrow. THANKS!

if anything....lower your tire pressure in the 15s and they will probably help you....

15's will only be faster if the tires are as good as the ones on the 17's which i doubt, the difference shouldnt be huge though, i'd still go.

The 15's will probably do better than the 17's.
I just noticed it's an Exel wheel. I know a girl with the same brand on her Civic and they are tanks. Your definatly better off with the 15's.

I don't like hearing that my 17's are worse, BUT I'm okay w/ it because I was more disappointed that I might not go this friday, but I think i will still go now! Thanks guys....I'll have a new rim by next spring when I go to put them back on. I was gonna take em off here in the next few weeks anyway..it just sux that i gotta pay $180 for a new 1 now. o well....

you trap speed will be high and et's faster. i run 15 drag radials on mine and everything is faster. when you change to the 17's you are lowering your gear ratio hince less speed less power unless the 17's are the same size meaning rolling diamiter as the 15's take a look at this site to get an idea of how it is going to effect you

well to be honest I think my 15 w/ tires are overall larger in diameter....if not, they're like dead even....smaller rim w/ bigger tire vs. bigger rim w/ smaller tire....

lets see if i got this right....
the best combo for the track would be 15 inch rims with low pro tires?

I AM RUNNING 205/50/15 DRAG RADIAL AND THEY ARE ALMOST 2 IN SMALLER THAN THE 225/50/16. I HIT THE SPEED LIMITER AT THE END OF THE TRACK

well I just went to the tire place and had 4 brand new Falken tires put on. They are 215/60/15. We'll see how they do at the track.

they are talkin about the 15" steel wheels. Hm....well I did replace them last year w/ some used ones for the winter and I just read off the old one I had....that's kinda cool then because I thought 60's were rediculous lol. They are still about the same diameter as the 17" wheel/tire (215/45/17).

so with this all in mind your speedo is going to read 2miles faster than you are really going.

Fastest Run on 235/45/17 = 15.46
Fastest Run on 215/60/15 = 15.54
I Don't Get It Either......I think my stock tires have little traction (you should see me sliding around in the snow with my no ABS, no traction control alero)

your also forgetting, even if the 17" weighs EXACTLY the same as the 15, the diamter is exactly the same, the traction is exactly the same, you will still have a slight advantage with the 15". because the weight is more concentrated towards the center of the rim on the 15". the majority of the weight is farther out on a 17", making it harder to turn, not much of a difference, but it helps

17's could be lighter, and wheel weight makes a BIG difference.

there's NO way...GAGT's stock tires are 225's and that's the whole argument behind their 125+ speed limiter cuz they come stock w/ higher speed rated tires where the Alero stock 215's are lower speed rating so thats y we top out at 108ish.

My old 17's weighed a ton, but I believe the tire did make a big difference.....oh well, I beat that old time now anyway :D
