View Full Version : Walmart Changed My Oil....

So i decided to get my oil changed at wally world, and they come and tell me that when they took the bolt out to drain it, that it pulled some threds along with it....
well then they tell me that what they thought was threds was really a spring... so when they tried to put the bolt back the threds wouldn't hold anymore, so they decided to just put a bigger bolt in there with a rubber washer... and told em to get it fixed as soon as i could cause its leaking slowly...
went to autozone, they cant even get em, ebay had one for a 2.4... not sure if thats the same as my 3.4? doubt it. Do I have to get it thru a dealer?
So if anyone knows where i can get a oil pan for a 3.4 let me know... :( stupid walmart

Drill out all the old threads then weld in a threaded bung in place of the original drain plug. I think it should work just make sure that you take the pan off the engine first and you wash it good so you dont set it on fire welding. or you may just beable to tap a bigger whole where the original is and put in a bigger bolt.

gezuz i dont even trust jiffy lube to change my oil....
you might be able to get a oversized one in there just have to use a tap to rethread it.. dont go to wally world again.
then take the recipt up to wally world and say you owe me this.

The magnet is on the very tip you wont realy realize it is a magnet unless you change your own oil becuase there will be little metal shavings on it, atleast mine always has a small amount of metal shavings on it.

I don't remember mine having that spring thing, although I could be wrong. my memory is poop. I can't remember how many sugars i put in my coffee 3 minutes ago, but I can remember the name of myneighbor's dog from growing up. i suppose drinking effects short term memory?
either way, Wally-world should cough-up the scratch to replace the oil pan, than i'd put the money towards something else. the oil-pan fix described by VTOLDS is right on the mark. Excellent suggestion.

I ahve never seen a plug with t spring on it and that pic doesnt have a magnetic tip on the plug. my quess would have to be that the spring is to help keep the bolt from backing out by keeping pressure on the threads?

damn
looks like the threads pulled out of the oil pan
go back to gay-mart and have them fix it

Id say go back to wally world and get the distric managers number , also on your recpit it should say who the f*** up was who did it, call the distric manager exsplain what happend and then threaten to call home office if they dont front the fix, I had a exsperience with them changing my ex oil the numb nuts never put the filter on.

I think that pan was messed up before Wallmart got their hands on it.
That really looks like someone tried to fix that before. You may find someone who could re-tap the pans threads, but it may be a lost cause at this point. Especialy after they tried to put in an oversized plug. Pan will most likley need to be replaced. I wouldn't really know who's at fault. I do think, who ever tried to fix that pan before should have said something!

Find out what size the original bolt is and find a bung to weld into the oil pan do that I would say that would be way cheaper than replaceing it.

sorry dude but once a helicoil is used. its a lost case. you can TRY finding someone to tap a huge new bolt in, but then your going to have problemas anyway.
time for a new pan.

order it from the dealer or the get the part number and order it from gmpartsdirect.com

yeah i found it on gmpartsdirect
my dad went and talked to them since I have only had my oil changed at walmarts, one in Fort Wayne and the one in Columbia city. One of them would have said something, and the last one to change the oil was that walmart that I just took it to..
He made new threds and put a new bolt in, got home, still leaking, he is going to talk to his boss and find out if they will pay to have it replaced, unless we were happy with what he did, but since its leaking, well call and see what they say Tue. Wallmart has money... they can cough up there screw up. Or they should have brought up the problem the first time...

lol...this is just one of those "live and learn" situations. The moral of this story (which should have just been understood to begin with) is:
DON'T LET WAL-MART TOUCH YOUR CAR...FOR ANY REASON!!!!
P.S. If you're thinking about re-drilling new threads or welding anything or removing the oil pan yourself..then you obiously have the skills to change your own oil....just my 2 cents there.

$100 for what?....oil changes? lol.....I'm sorry but wal-mart is a joke. It's like if a restaurant serves you rotten food and you get sick so they give you a "free complimentary dinner"...WTF?! why would anyone wanna come back!?!?
