So a bunch of us went out racing last night as I mentioned before. The conditions were amazing and I think everyone there got a new PB time. I beat my previous time 4 times last night and was really happy! I finally got my tires to hook up and launch.

And before some of you start saying a 4 cyl can't run that fast here are my time slips and many people on this site were there racing with me.

I run my car near empty with no spare tire/jack and my left head light removed to get air to my intake. the temp was about 50-55 degrees American

Here is my best run of the night!

I am car #495

This is my second best run. It was against my friend on this site (Grandprix GT) who drives a (surprise) Grandprix GT. His best run was a 15.29 I think. He'll let you know for sure.

Thanks man!

rxn - that mean reaction times? cause I am car 495 and I was in the fives in all but the first one

We use old IHRA trees where perfect reation time is .500

Thats awesome dude, though I seem to remember you mentioning you had different grip or wheels last time you went to the track? What sorta rubber is that on the car in the pics? Have you taken out the Cat or the Resonator on your exhaust system? What level of RPM's were you dumpin at, and did you need to feather the clutch? Also, off topic, and just outta curiousity, but please lemme know a lil more about how you have your custom CAI routed

Good times but work on that R/T

consistent .540-.590 is pretty decent ken. i used to try for perfect .500, but after 3 perfect light trophies, and a few .499-.496 fouls, i decided i could deal with .520-.550

when i use to bracket race i had consistant .510-.520 those are pretty good. it is to easy to lose with those high of r/t

getting redlights are all part of drag racing.

yea, well bracket racing with street cars is completely different than sportsman footbrakes.

with sportsman footbrakes, your car is so dialed in that the entire race is pretty much in the tree.

Those are the stock crappy BF Goodrich tires but down to 25PSI. I have the stock CAT in my car and a high flow resonator. The piping goes arouind my battery and through the whole where the stock airbox was into the left fender.

Yeah, my reaction times aren't great, I was more worried about hooking up then getting a good start, but now that I know how to run the car, I will work on the reaction times next.

I do feather the clutch cause when I dumped at 3000rpm or 3500rpm I would get horrible wheel hop. I usually feather the clutch around 3500rpm.

Yeah, honestly, they really aren't that fast. My friends is a 2 door GT with an Intake, exhaust, and DHP, and maybe a few other mods. He is fast now, but before the DHP I could take him.

And my friends stock 4 door GT was not that fast either, I kept taking him till I missed a gear in 2 runs :(

Now GTP's on the other hand.....

gxryan
11-02-2004, 04:42 PM
lol ya i don't even waste my time with a GTP I know my role in the food chain

thats good news my buddy is talking about getting a GT so thats good to know i should be able to take him still LOL

yah I just gotta tough out the next 5 months and then I am good to go I can start dumping money into my car but i think i'll stop once i put the WAI headers and exaust on it.

Cause afterall it's just a lease i'm not gonna dump that much money into it to give it back

Actually it was cold.....very cold 5 Degrees Celious, or about 40F.

Traction was an issue as you'll see by my 60's, but there was power. A friend in a 3400 2 Door Grand Am GT with a CAI and Cat Back exhaust did a 14.9

LOL, yeah there is a joke amongst IHRA drivers from what I hear that they say the tracks run down hill  (and no they don't)

I think the ass-numbing cold and low altitude is the keys to these times.

MikeSS
11-15-2004, 10:06 PM
last one. This race was a against a Grand Am GT with crappy hood scoops (not the SC/T hood) and a CRAP-LOAD of stickers all over his car......he thought he was soo fast......guess he wasn't :P

All this talk makes me wish I had an Ecotec. :( Headers are friggin expensive for the 6. Sounds like it's way cheaper to build an Ecotec.

great times! I think in the same conditions, the 6 would run similar numbers... but yeah, the eco is a great engine. If I were buying my Alero today, I would definately get the eco.

We were running high 15's and low 16's on 3400 aleros in 90+ degree heat with poor traction. The eco and twin cam guys were running mid to high 16's.

It'd be interetsting to take my car down to englishtown and run it in the cool weather to see what she has :)

Yeah, if you could run somewhere low and cold, I am sure you would knock a few more tenth's off that time. But remember low temps = even worse traction.

I run right in the middle of the V6 Alero/Grand Am's here, they all get between 15.2-15.6 usually (and the one guy with a 14.9). A fast V6 Alero should be around 15.10 I figure in those conditions.
