View Full Version : I'm Having Issues With My Horn

Okay, when I had my accident in July 2003, everything was fixed just great, and most was fixed to a better condition than how I bought the Alero. Except the horn. It was higher pitched when I got it back, but just as loud.
Just yesterday, though, it got real quiet. you can still hear it if your not talking or if the engine isn't running, but it's really quiet.
My questions to you guys:
Do you have any idea what's wrong with it?
How can I fix it?
If it's not covered by warranty (which it more than likely is anyway...) how much would I be looking to pay to fix it?
Would it be feasible to get a big rig's horn? (you know, "big beefy" sound!?)
Thanks

those "big rig" horns that are about 12 bucks sound just a little louder than stock, my buddy got one for his ranger, if you want big rig, you have to go air.
you'll be fine replacing yours with the big rig ones from advanced auto. there are 2 by the way. and you dont have to wire anything up, just unplug the old ones and plug in the new ones.

I dont think you can fix it unless you hvae a broke wire or somehting just replace it with the loadest my obnoxious horn you can afford.

no prob.
and if that doesnt fix it, maybe you've got a wiring problem.
you could reach in if you dont have foglights, unplug one and get a voltmeter, and have someone press the horn.

pull out your passenger headlight assembly.....your horn is right behind it. I had this problem w/ mine too. There's 2 horns...and the cones (megaphone looking thing to project the sound) on them are facing opposite directions..one UP and one DOWN...w/ mine, the one facing up was filled w/ water, I mean full..so I took an air compressor and blew out all the water from it and it works fine now. You may try that....otherwise i dunno.

I don't wanna put a song horn on. Perhaps If I were as obnoxious as the dude in Caddyshack, I might do that. I was thinking about this though. maybe two low tones together....

nah. I don't really use it, but it bothers me when I use my remote locks. I sounds sorta like a chihuahua barking. :(

ROFLMAO  Anyways, I'm sure the horn in the last link you posted would work man. Do you know anyone with a meter? you really should check it 1st before you spend cash on a new horn Randy. If you buy a horn, hook it up, and nothin happens, then don't say we didn't tell you so. :D

Did you ever actualy fix it? I mean, did the dealer fix it?

yes. They "fixed" it in January when I took it in for the shorted out fuel pump. Then I passed my inspection like 3 weeks ago, and if I had an inspection now, I wouldn't pass.

screw a big rig horn, what you need is a train horn.
we've got a suburban around here with a train horn, and its loud as fock.

I really don't know what the issue is with the horn. The day I revived this thread, it started working again, and then stopped working again on Monday.

I am on my 3rd horn w/ my Alero man....they suck....I have mine sitting on my front seat right now...I gotta run to Autozone and buy another one...again. But I honk my horn w/ my friends and stuff probably more in one night than most people do in their whole life so I bet that contributes to the wear lol..

You know my horn is starting to sound really weak as well. I mean its sill pretty loud if you press the horn button, but the tone has changed for some reason and when my keyless entry honks it sounds really low. I guess I will be buying a new one as well. Can you get this same horn at Advance or Autozone?

There's actually two horns behind your passenger headlight....one for high tone and one for low tone......so you gotta buy 2 unfortunately (if u wanna replace your "whole" horn). The stock horn we have is the FIAMM AM80 high and low tone horns. I replaced mine w/ the FIAMM freeway blaster horn (it's the SAME thing only a lil louder)...I got mine at local Advance Auto Parts store
