Alright, I made a stupid decision to buy a 280-watt Sony shelf system for a total of $211 at Circuitcity. Don't ask why, but I'm gonna return it to get my money back, so I wanna get a headunit, cause my stock is easily skipping now. This Pioneer DEH-6600 looks sweet. I don't really wanna spend anymore than $300 total.
Also, once I take back that shelf system (30 day money back), I will get cash right? At best buy, the headunit is $224. Thx.

Don't buy the base pioneer model buy the Pioneer Premiere model it's a WAY better deck,
Better pre outs
more power
better warranty
only downside is more cost
once u've had premiere u'll never go back to anything else

Personally, I bought the Panasonic, I forget the model number now..but its the color changing one a couple years back and its the best head unit i've ever bought. i got in an accident and the damn thing still didnt skip a beat. my brother had the same one in his jeep that he would take off-roading and through all the bumps, rocks, trees(oops), it never skipped. I bought the alpine tv this time around and i'm not so satisfied with it. it just doesn't seem to sound as good or as loud..
so moral of my story: I'd get another panasonic anyday

I got the 6600 Jackel. I may be wrong, but I think the only differences are with the plastic up front. The display is pretty much the same, as are the features. Same deck, new model number.

I just talked to my dad, da previous owner of da alero, and he is saying that a new head unit won't fit right in a alero, there will be some space showing and junk. Any of ya guys get this?

there is an adapter that takes care of the gap, they shoudl carry it at bestbuy or curcit city. jsut ask.

The spacing your dad is probably talking about is at the back of the unit. I had to do a little trimming of the plastic back there to get my decks to fit.
Anyway, I previously owned the 6500 and I now own the 6600. There are quite a few differences between the two. First the 6600 has one additional output over the 6500, specifically for the subs. That makes three aux inputs on the 6600 over two on the 6500. Second, it has a High Pass Filter, the 6500 does not. This is designed to filter the music coming out of your stock speakers so only certain frequencies (that you choose) come out. There is the option to run the subs with all speakers working in your car, as opposed to the 6500, you could only run the front speakers when you were in sub mode. Now, how do I explain this? On the 6500, there was an option to run in sub mode. When this was on, you would have all the settings in your Audio to control the level and output of your subs. When this was turned off, you could not adjust you subs. There is this same option on the 6600, but it runs with all of the stock speakers, as opposed to just with the front speakers. The 6600 also has more adjustability as far as sound goes. I think it is quite a bit better than the 6500, and well worth the money.

I doubt it, usualyy the higher models include everything the lower models have, plus some. In this case, There may be more than just mp3 that the 7600 adds.

Your right I think, all the tech specs are the same. Just the mp3 function. I might look into a deck sometime soon. I got a jvc mp3 headunit. The real reason I got it was an easy access front aux connector. Other than that not a good HD by itself.

for 10-30 bucks more, i think i'll go with the 7600

the 6600 has a fighter jet motion graphic display as one of the choices whereas the 7600 has a spaceship...lol....that's about it other than MP3 capabilities

An' the fighterjet video is pretty sweet. If I had a place to post it, I'd shoot a video for you guys showing all the different videos. The one with the dolphins swimming is great aswell, although I hardly ever stray from the old needle guage screen. Here's an old pic showing the needle guages i'm talking about.
This was before I added-in the little cubby-hole under the deck.

The pioneer website if u dig around u can find all the videos for the cd players
goto Pioneer Webpage (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4039_63891896,00.html)
and click on were it says "OEL screensaver previews"
if u wanna look at a different deck just pick it fromt he left hand side either pioneer cd or premiere

put it this way,
I go there once a week cause I am going to buy that Premier 9600.
LOL and i like the display
and my buddy had his stereo jacked so we've been using that site like wildfire trying to decide what he should get. lol.
and yeah I can buy the premiere 7600 for about 400 bucks canadian, which is extrememly cheap to when i bought my 7600 about 3 years ago which was 500 dollars and the cost price i get hasn't changed any. just the price that pioneer can manufacture them has dropped alot. that or else the place i buy my stereo from and used to work for has a new distributor.
Either way 400 bucks canadian for the premiere 760 is DIRT cheap.

I think just buying electronics in the states is ussually cheaper.
not to mention to bring it over the border we have to pay duty on it and crap stupid getting hosed.
and u are looking at the pioneer 760 not the premiere 760
