Fuel Leak.. Don't Know What The Part Is..

Alright, it's happening on the (I'll call it this..) "fuel rail" (the gray thing that connects to the olive green thing) where I think the injectors are when my car is in idle (not sure if it does it during driving. It's a little olive green cylindrical thing with a black wire coming from the top of it. It is located at the (if you are looking from a bird's eye view) bottom left of the engine top. I cannot figure out why it is leaking unless there is a hole somewhere. It looks like the way the gas is forming that there is a little bit of fumes seeping out right by it where the olive green thing meets the "fuel rail". I tried resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery. I have one of those warm air intakes (piping the whole way and a cone filter). Maybe because the air is colder now this is happening? I really hope that some kind of gasket didn't die. By the way, could someone please tell me what this part is called? Thanks. Here's a pic of another engine where the leak is occuring on mine:

yea that looks like the fpr to me and no, the intake is not going to cause this to go bad unless when installing it you hit it hard or something, otherwise its just leaking, relieve the fuel pressure, and see if its just loose or maybe an o-ring went bad.....

The thing you got circled is the fuel pressure regulator which everyone has already pointed out. Iam not sure if the regulator is all 1 part with the rail. WHat I would do is change it out for a performance one like a Venom or something because chances are you need a new one.

.. so I got an oil change today and then I go home, check it.. no leak.. wtf. :wacko:

I guess it's fixed now or something, but I'm still monitoring it. Thanks for the information anyway. :D

Okay the slow leak occurs only during start up then it stops when the engine is warmed up.

I was wondering.. what do I have to ask the guys at a parts store for? It is leaking slowly from the gasket where the fuel rail meets the fuel pressure regulator. There has to be some kind of gasket kit right? I just need the exact name so I don't look like a moron and I get the right part.

Are you guys sure that that olive green-colored thing that I pointed out is the fuel pressure regulator? I may just go ahead and buy a Weapon-R one and install it. Suggestions?

If you gotta take it apart and you got the money mine as well replace it. And yes it is your fuel pressure regulator. I would also check out the venom regulator it is good for nitrous, turbo, and supercharged applications. But if you get the Venom mine as well get there intake and fuel rail :)

Hey, thanks for the replies. I just decided that I won't screw around with trying to do a cheap job so I bought the Weapon R fuel pressure regulator from Andysautosport.com:

It should be better than stock and it is adjustable. Maybe a little too much for a typical every day driver, but it should look nice in the engine bay and be capable of outperforming the stock regulator. It even comes with an gauge.

if that is the FPR you got it will not work. you will need the induction dynamics adaptor for it.

In that pic is that a compressor line going into your intake? Or NOS?

this is so ironic....yesterday i had my car in the shop for some new tires and one of the mechanics noticed my car started hard. I told him its just a thing with aleros and that i'm use to it...anyways...to make a long story short....he said the fpr was leaking gas into one of my cylinders so everytime i would start my car it would flood...hence the hard starting. My car starts like a fricking dream now...brand new car came out of the shop

That's not a pic of my engine bay, but I posted it as a general reference of the problem area... although I do wish it could be my setup. :thumbsup:

I fixed the leak by taking it apart. Gasoline will leak out so I had a bunch of paper towels all over the place. I had to get two different sized star wrenches to unbolt it then I had to unscrew an intake manifold bolt--the one that is anchoring the fuel line towards the right of the intake manifold--to give me some slack to pull the fuel pressure regulator out of the fuel rail. I know of no pressure bleed lines so that's how I got the fuel pressure out. I checked the o-ring and it was fine. I let out a few choice words then just put it back together and tightening the star bolts and the intake manifold bolt back firmly. I wiped off the few spots where the gasoline leaked with a little bit of Ajax and water. After that, I started the car.. no leak. The next morning it didn't leak either. It hasn't leaked since then so I solved the problem.

I'm guessing it started to leak due to the long term affects of vibration or something/someone hit it loose when I took it for an oil change when I was too lazy to do it myself.
