ok, a while back i posted that i had bought soundstream BIAMP, dual impedance speakers.

i got exact 4" components up front. they have a 3ohm woofer, 4ohm tweeter. i also got a set of soundstream tarantuala 6x9's in the back, they are also 3 ohm woofer, 4ohm tweeters. all 4 speakers have external crossovers, so they are biampable.

the factory system uses 2ohm woofers front and back, and 6ohm tweeters, front and back, and bi-amps them

i originally posted that they sounded fine, but the bass response was lacking. so i bought a 5 channel amp, and a sub. to get ready for the amp, i re-did the speakers. i took the 6x9's out of the baffles and mounted them on a piece of sheetmetal, because the factory opening had been cut to large (for the baffles). i siliconed and screwed the speaker to the sheetmetal. then siliconed and screwed the sheetmetal to the car. i used the silicone to insure there were no air gaps. i then dynamated the rear deck. I did the front speakers the same way

the result....they sound awesome. i adjusted it +3bass, +1mid, -2treble to make up for the now to powerful tweeters (original's were 6 ohms, now there 4) and the somewhat less powerful bass (originals were 2 ohm, now are 3) the 6x9's sound like "subs" again. i popped a rap cd in and cranked it up. the bass was very full, but didnt' make that cheap floppy sound that oem's did. i could feel the bass in my seat again. its a much tighter and fuller bass than stock. i can also crank it way up and it doesn't distort, words are much cleaner, the whole setup sounds about 2x as good as oem. you do have to turn the radio up a little louder than stock, probably because they dont draw quite as much as stock, but it still gets pretty loud. i havn't given it a road test yet, driving with the windows down. ill do it tomorrow.

in conclusion, if you want to replace your oem speakers, but not go all out and you have the monsoon system, GO SOUNDSTREAM. all components are bi-ampable, but only soundstream makes them with 3ohm woofers. 4ohm woofers results in less output from the fronts. the fronts already lack a little bit, so i faded it to the front some. there are VERY few companies that make bi-ampable 6x9's, but ONLY soundstream makes them with 3ohm woofers. if they had 4 ohm woofers, they would get much less bass.
