I need to see how many people would be interested in this im working with VCFinishes (http://vcfinishes.com/) on this and they are going to give me a dealers discount because of the parts that I make and sell.
they can do pretty much any pattern, but what I inquired on is carbon fiber and brushed aluminum.....
this technology is how you get the stock wood trim or carbon fiber etc. dashes. They said you are looking at about 30 cents per square inch, but would be a little less possibly with the dealer discount. I only have to get a minimum order of $50 so that wont be hard at all....
post here if interested. I dont know the exact price until i get the list together and present it.....im only going to do this if it is going to be $150 or less ;)
heres an example of what they did to a saturn dash in carbon fiber.

^^ i guess i dont know what you mean? if you mean what parts are done.....anything you send will be done....its not a kit you put on yourself, they do all of it for you, its dipped, its the same way that car manufacturers get the simulated dashes etc.

tentatively it depends on all the pieces involved, she gave me a generic number of 30 cents per square inch.....but would cheaper because i would have a dealer discount....she would have to get a set of pieces to get an accurate quote....so as soon as i know how many people are willing to be in on this i will send her my set of pieces and get an exact cost......
personally if its more than 150 bucks im not gonna do it.... <_<
also , im having her find some more pics for us!

Well that is ard to judge 30 cents a square inch. I personally dont know how many square inches make up all the dash trim but It is alot.

Hmm I wonder if they could do anything with the actual dash panel.....since they have more color schemes and all available.....
FormulaNERD

you'd have to strip the vinyl off of your dash, and then make the surface smooth.

I think it is random depending how it is dipped.

11-12-2004, 12:20 PM
they have other patterns avail.... asked her to send me some pics of them.... the dash pieces are not that large, might cost a couple bucks for each vent or something....i really dont know...thats why we need to get a big list of interested so i can present her with a lot of business and get em done dirt cheap.

Bryce -
What don't they like about the carbon fiber pattern? We have a smaller version and remember it can go over different colors. We do a large volume of aftermarket parts in the carbon fiber pattern 137 that is on our website. Also, we don't have offer a chrome finish at this time. That is a completely different process we will offer in the next few months and is more expensive.
You're idea sounds good. Let me know when the list is complete and we can revisit the pricing at that time.

there's nothing random to it.
they stick a sheet of the CF in plastic/vinyl form into the liquid, then they stick your piece in there, and a chemical reaction sticks the sheet to your plastic. and then they trim any excess that needs to be trimmed.
the pieces i have now were professionally WTP'd and i wish i could find the company that did them.
AnderbrA
11-12-2004, 02:00 PM
formula......get a couple close up shots of yours and we will see if she can match it! ;)
We have a few different carbon fiber patterns, but because they aren't requested often we don't have pictures of them. If there is something these guys want to try to match and you could send us something to see if we have it that would be great. Otherwise the only thing we can do is sample some plaques in the different carbon fiber patterns and see if it's anything they are looking for. This would take a couple of weeks because our sampling dept. is backed up right now, but at least it's an alternative.
Let me know what you think.

Bryce,
Would we have to send in our stock pieces to get this done? Not sure I want to drive around with those pieces missing for a while.
FormulaNERD
11-12-2004, 02:08 PM
yes, you would have to send in your stockers. or buy a set from a junkyard and send them in.
AnderbrA
11-12-2004, 02:09 PM
yeah you would because they are dipped in a vat of the sheets and chemicals.....cant imagine turn around is that bad.....

yes there is....its just cut vinyl....this here is chemically bonded to the plastic.....this is the way that the OEM manufacturers get the simulated dash kits etc.
Vtolds
11-12-2004, 02:45 PM
No he advertises that it is not vinyl actaully but I saw it a while ago and it was for only the newer aleros. I emailed him and he said it was a dip like what you are talking about us group buying.
AnderbrA
11-12-2004, 02:51 PM
all of the aleros have the same dash....the only interior difference would be 2 door vs 4 door....
you would still have to send your pieces to get them dipped.
Vtolds
11-12-2004, 02:54 PM
Actaully there is a slight difference on the console around the shifter.
FormulaNERD
11-12-2004, 03:09 PM

Yeah but what do the 2003 and 2004's look like? I believe the replacements he had are for the 2003 and they defenitly looked different. He doesnt have anything on ebay currently so I have no way to tell exactly.
AnderbrA
11-12-2004, 03:35 PM
i think he is right with the center console, if im not mistaken the difference is the cubbie in front of the shifter.....thats about it.

11-12-2004, 05:58 PM
i'm thinking about it, but i'd have to get a set of spare ones from a junkyard, then send those. but i'd also have to get a figurative price for a center console.(around radio part)
AnderbrA
11-12-2004, 06:22 PM
the only definative answer i can give you as a price is less than 30 cents per square inch....they cannot give me an exact cost until i send them a set. i am going to do that after i round up enough orders to make it worth it.....I am only going to do it if its less than $150 for all of the pieces...
Arsonalero
11-12-2004, 10:06 PM
how much do you think it gonna run us? cuz if its gonna be like $0-$150 im in for Carbon Fiber

I think it might be benneficial for us to reply with a list of the parts we want dipped. He could get a better idea of the quantity that way. Count me in on the radio bezel, shifter console, and dash gauge trim in Black Weave 155. If you could ask how they measure a particular piece it may help us to estimate the costs. Example. They have a picture of the explorer sport track Radio Bezel done in White Weave 137 . How would they measure this? I am going to guess it would be a measurment of the longest length and height. Thanks.
Naich
11-13-2004, 05:57 PM
I wanted to do this too, but I don't have the funds to get the project going. Good luck Anderbra!
AnderbrA
11-13-2004, 06:48 PM
naich...the good thing is i only have to get a min order of 50 bucks, so primarily the only benefit of doing this would be to get a better discount...they said they would give me a dealer discount because of all the parts that i make and sell, but if we get a bunch of people in...then we could get a better one.

that would definately help....but right now i just want to get a list of those interested in the interior itself....the more pieces done, the more it would cost, the less....the less it would cost...
my goal is to get all of the interior parts done for less than 150.

Wow, if it under 150 for all the pieces, definately count me in eventually. When I was looking into it, the cost was somewhere around $60 for the console pieces, 30 for the dash ring, 20-ish for each of the door handle trims, and like 5-10 for each little piece (the hazard button ring, etc). 150 total would be awesome!

how soon you going to need those pieces? and what pieces are you looking for?
AnderbrA
11-18-2004, 10:38 AM
im guessing we want to do the most common pieces,
radio bezel
shifter bezel
guage piece
window controls....4dr.
vents?
we want to get those there ASAP because that is what is going to tell us the accurate cost...

also add the hazard button surround, maybe the glove box latch
the vent surrounds would be cool too, but you'd probably have to remove the vent things and paint them black or something.
i also want the rears next to the seats, would have to remove the vinyl first, but i'm not sure how smooth it is under there.... and a-pillars?
AnderbrA
11-18-2004, 09:49 PM
lets start with the most common ones first, then we can add on a case by case basis.
radio bezel
shifter bezel
guage piece
window controls,
hazard button
vents

What would a guy need to do to get those parts sent up to Canada? (Ie., ordering info, currency exchange rate, shipping costs, thank you cards, etc.,)?

I am curious as to the order that we would be sending our parts. Would we all send them to you or the facility? Should it be a list and send as others are compleated or all at once? I am just curious as to what would be the easiest way to keep us from mixing our orders.

i think he's trying to get ahold of an extra set for the people who cant just send them in and go without for a week. then you can pay, he sends you a finished set, then you send your unfinished ones.

Holy, another important thread i've been missing. I would be in for either CF 110 or brushed aluminum. Can't decide just yet till pics arrive. But I would like to be on the list.

11-20-2004, 11:11 PM
well my vents won't come out due to them breaking and me fixing them so they aren't broke but yet won't come out with out breaking again.
i do not want my vents done anyways.

I got all my original stuff to send out. Shifter, gauge, radio. I'd be doing CF110 probably. I'd do the window switches if they could label 'em like formula's from the OSV.

I'm in for the brushed aluminum if under $150.
AnderbrA
11-21-2004, 01:45 PM
Ok, heres how i think we will do it, after we get a set to them to get an accurate quote, how this will be done, is i think we will send the money directly to them with your pieces....primarily what is going to happen is im gonna get a better price...
those details will be ironed out after we get a complete set of pieces to them...they may want me to send them all the $ or they may accept it as they come in...I dont know yet.
mdodgealero: all i have is the pics of the samples in this thread...
eh_nigma: we will probably be sending directly to the company so just stick tight and decide what pattern you want.
mdodge
11-21-2004, 02:11 PM
Like most people, i wouldn't be able to go without my pieces for a week. I'll have to think about which I want. I was hoping maybe some people in front of me would get there's done first so that I could see pics of them and then decide.
I dont know...but I can't wait til we can get some notice of when to send some pieces.

Driving without most of the parts wont really affect the car except for the part around the radio and heater controls.

i can send what i able but not the vents, due to the broken reasons, stated above.
i can't believe no one will part with the pieces for awhile just to get these made.

11-21-2004, 08:38 PM
I can, because I have the original ones allready pulled out of my car.
Thats the one thing I'm good for. Cores.
I have 3 sets of taillights, a set of headlights, and a butt load of other stuff lying around.
What I'm not good for....money.
I'd love to see some HID projectors on my car, and a set of ander tails, but I have NO way of paying for it.
AnderbrA
11-22-2004, 02:08 AM
what kind of tails are you wanting smokin.....i could give you a fat discount if you wanted to part with those tails!!!! ;)
its whoever wants to send them cuz mine are all painted and i want to send a clean set first.....to get the cost...then when we get a cost, everyone send theirs and their money and viola!! done!

Oh man! I wish you guys were doing this in March or something! The cold weather prevents me from wanting to do anything to my car except warm her up. :( (if the timing was better, I would have been in for a CF Radio bezel, and the ring around the guage bezel)
FormulaNERD
11-23-2004, 11:34 PM
i dont understand why cold weather matters? i mean, you can still have your hvac in the car without the bezel, it'll be a little ghetto, but not for that long.

thats the way mine has been for damn....like a year....i just know what the settings are on the knobs, dont need to have pictures....
I'm getting little reluctant now due to the "not getting anywhere thing"...no offense... I just think a kit might be better off because even when they dip these things there is still one question that comes to mind....Will the dipped pieces be clear coat labeled where the current text is on things such as vents and heat controls? :)

lol its been 13 days....its not (not going anywhere) the sooner we get a stock set of pieces there, the sooner we will get an accurate price, then its done, you send your pieces they get done, then its over.....
johnnyboy was going to send the pieces, i just havent had a chance to touch base with him...
if you want me to take you off the list i will though.
i dont think they label them, no as far as the door ones.....but how often do you read them anyways...i dont....
as far as the HVAC ones, you mask that area off.
AnderbrA
11-30-2004, 09:43 AM
ok guys, progress......lol
Oldsman has agreed to send a few pieces, and i am going to do the rest....
this is what we are sending
*guage bezel
*radio bezel
*shifter bezel
*door pieces 2 and 4 door
*vent bezels
once they get there they can give us an accurate quote....cross our fingers it will be less than 150 bucks
