Just installed the B&M. Definitly firms the shift, but its strange, when I have it on Stage 2 even, when I floor the car, it shifts like it normally would without the B&M. however, If I am lightly, or half way on the gas, it snaps right into 2nd. Not enough to spin the tires at all, but it seems like it shifs hard when im not flooring it, as opposed to having it floored?? whats up with that. hopefully this doesnt mean my 2nd gear is slipping....

Do you have an aftermarket or performance programmed PCM?

is your trac off light on?

maybe a connection is not good enough.

mine works great and has for a year

Stock pcm, and I tried with traction control on, and off. no difference. I only got it to break tires 1 time, and its raining out, and that was on fresh pavement. Its not gonna do it all the time and in good conditions. I dont get it. And im sure its getting a good connection. All other gears hit, firm, just when floored its not very effective. I wanted to be able to at least chirp 2nd gear with this.....Ive tried in D and manually shifting. No difference! doesnt make sence unless its physically my tranny

Side note: I am not regretting buying this. It definitly firms the shifts, and would be handy for racing. And man does it SLAM! into D from park or reverse on stage 2 !!!! anyways, hope I can resolve this little problem

it may be your tranny

Are you adjusting the settings with the car off? If not, the settings will not take affect. Just a thought, beyond that, I would start looking at the tranny.

yep, car off, then pick my setting. I know how to use it, but signs point to the tranny :(

I wonder if I should just sell it (the B&M). I'm not going to drop tons of money into a tranny right now since mine still works quite well (minus being able to burn tire going into 2nd gear) It still drives fine even when I am beating on it, it performs well. by the way, where was the place that made a "bulletproof" 4t45e ??

Just turn it off for now.

I had a hard time installing mine, due to the lack of space

i re-did mine, it WAS working before, and now it works better, but still no chirp, or trac off.

i'm positive now that it takes a good connection, i'm gonna solder and heatshrink it next time.

Hmmm, do you think it makes a difference if you have it wired to the PCM, or out at the tranny....and how exactly does this thing work anyways. What is it doing to the electrical signal ???

FormulaNERD

i'm not completely sure, but i'm guessing at full line pressure its a certain voltage, we'll say 12v for the sake of argument. a 10 or 11v signal is going to give you softer shifts, and without a complete connection, the full 12v isnt being connected.

again, these voltages are all figuratively speaking, i have no idea what they really are.

well being it is meant to be wired at the tranny then maybe it does.

The B&M shift plus shift kit simply recalibrates the transmission's hydraulic system through the modulator circuit to provide firmer, quicker, more positive high performance shifts. The B&M shift plus shift kit simply recalibrates the transmission's hydraulic system through the modulator circuit to provide firmer, quicker, more positive high performance shifts.

jesus..........such precision facts! :D thats our oldsman! :D

i dont really notice a performance differance in shifting, all i notice is that it shifts quicker (less lag time). thats all i really noticed. but i havent driven my car enough lately to notice difference's. hell i didnt even noticed any difference when i put my WAI and shift kit on, i guess i just dont drive my car enough anymore :wah:

what it does for performance it by making the shifts quicker and harder it will help your ET at the track because the soft shifts and slippage makes you at the most a hundredth of a sec slower.

in comparision to a dhp chip, does the dhp chip make it shift fast and harder like the b&m (on setting 1 or somthing)? i really want to get a chirp on WOT 1-2 shifts, the aurora could do it, it was awesome seeing the looks on people's faces when you spun a little tire at like 35mph :D.

Oldsman

i love turning head when the alero chirps second gear.

i don't think the dhp will make it happen but not sure. but i do know you really should not use both.

I can chirp second with the ASE. It's pretty crazy.

can you do it with a dhp though?

I cant even chirp 1st in with the 2.4, you think that a shift kit or somehting like the AutoTrans Interceptor at PFYC would help with that?

is the final drive ratio the same in the 4t40 as the 4t45 ?

Oldsman
11-21-2004, 07:56 PM
no

4t40 has a 3.42 final drive. 4t45 i think is 3.08 or 3.05
