I'm sure this has been answered somewhere on the board but I have no time anymore to read every post to look for a answer so if you have it please don't send me on a trip to go look for it.
I have a Boss 1400 watt amp. I had it sitting in my trunk for about 2 months not used and the wires came out of it. Last week I wanted to hook it back up so I hooked up all the wires 12volt+ to the 4 gauge + wire the ground to a grounded part of the car and then the remote wire backup to where it was hooked onto behind the CD player. Power is getting to the unit but the protection light comes on and I get no power to the speakers. Any clues what could cause this problem?
Oh and I opened it up and tested every last connection and they are all working.

did the speaker wires come out too?? if you wire them in wrong you may be runnin 2 ohms or even less and maybe the amp cant handle it, ive experimented and sometimes that happens when i try and run it at low ohms and the amp cant handle it, its like a shutdown mode........
make sure none of the + and - are grounding out at the amplifier, then check how you hooked up the speakers......otherwise your amp may be screwed.......

Check your ground and make sure your fuse isnt blown.

I think I might buy a new wiring kit. I may have the wires mixed up. Is the remote - or +? I know I used to have the amp hooked up to a switch so I could turn it off when I wanted to.
Tell me if I got this right
12 volt + is the 4 gauge wire going to the battery with the fuse on it. 50A
Remote goes to a - 12 volt power source.
Ground run this to any part of the car that is grounded. Or should this go to the ground wire in the back of the CD player?
If all fails I well get a new amp. It was working fine before I stopped using it just when I hooked it up again it stopped working.

Power to bat +, ground to a GOOD chassis ground, remote to positive out of receiver. wires are usually blue for amp turn on out of reciever , or labeled power antenna, or amp.
I had an amp that sat in my closet for 6 months worked great when i put it the closet, had a dead channel when i reconnected it.

Remote wire goes to your power antenna/amp wire coming out of your reciever it should be a blue color, it basically just flips the switch on to let your amp power on.

ok think that might be my problem then. so its only + that goes into the unit and a ground. I was causing a fault because of my wiring.
I well test this in the monring before work

Possibly becuase your sending power through your turn on which may be throwing it into protection.

i dont think that's true, for a while i jumped the power from the amp power line straight to the remote, worked fine.

yea that will work formula........the thick cables goes to battery, ground to a good chasis ground, and remote to back of head unit......the remote wire turns the amp on after the cd player is turned on to get rid of any ignition interference when you go to start your car.......
make sure its all hooked up right and your speaker connections are good......

good stuff, for future reference most head units have that remote turn on wire and 99% its usually blue with a white stripe.......so if your friends ever ask which wire the amp goes to turn it on its the blue with white stripe......
