 When I'm driving along and hit a bump or something in the road I hear a rattling noise in the front-end that sounds like something is loose. Also feel a vibration that I'm not sure where it is coming from. Just had the wheels balanced so I'm pretty sure it's not out of balance wheels. Has anyone had similar problems and determined what it was? Thanks.

Tires loose? Does your car have hub caps, they tend to looosen making a rattling type sound.

No I've got aluminum wheels. 2000 GL Coupe. This sound is like a suspension part or something is loose. I've taken a look under it and can't see anything loose or broken but I haven't really looked that closely.

Check to see if your spring is seated correctly, it may have poppped out or even broke and you may not know it.

i've had the same problem for 3 years now, doesn't matter whether i have my steel rims and hub caps on, or my summer rims. It started making the noise before i modded my suspension, and is part of the reason i changed struts and to eibach lowering springs. I think it may be the bushings, but i've taken it back to the dealership 3 times and they said they couldn't hear anything funny or see anything wrong. So i just put up with it.

<_< Hmmmm. Well if I figure it out I'll post it. I was thinking that either the struts were worn out or maybe broken. Got almost 70,000 miles and assume the struts are the original ones. Even thought maybe that the rack was in some way loose or broken. Thanks.

Psuh down on your car above the suspension and if it rattles or is easily going down then there is your problem.

Will do. I doubt though that it will rattle. I think it takes hitting a bump or something in the road while you're driving it to notice that rattle.

As far as the rattle goes, it could be the windshield defrost vent. I know mine rattles incessantly, even when the road is smooth. As far as the vibration, probably your tie rod end. My car was doing the same thing, so I rotated and balanced the tires. It still vibrated. I didn't know what was going on until I took my car in for an alignment. They told me they needed to replace the tie rod end before they could align the car. After that was replaced, the vibration was gone.

Sounds reasonable. Would the windshield defrost vent make a rattling sound like something in the suspension was loose or broken?

No, it won't. You can tell the rattle is coming from the inside of the car, but if the tie rod end is loose, it could be rattling also.

This rattling is for sure coming from the suspension somewhere without a doubt. :(

i just had this problem. its ahh, damn i can't think of it. it is something really easy to fix. you just need to oil a bushing in behind the tire. i took it to the dealer thinking mine was a suspension problem and they call me like 20 minutes later and said it was fixed....
HA! found the repair report. it was the upper strut mouth rubber bushing. it was dry so they oiled it. works like a champ now. nothing serious, but annoying and sounds bad... i'd check yours. might be something really lame like that.

I've got the creaky supension sounds too... front and back.
Classic Chevy fixed it once... started up again. Brought it back and they insist nothing is wrong.
I would love to know what is causing it.

Mine now seems to only be doing it when it is ice cold outside. The first 5 or 10 minutes of driving and then its gone. Sounds like something is broken and thumping as it comes around or something. Would dry stut mount bushings cause something like this guys???? :o

When i first bought my car, i had a rattling noise in the front. My freind works for the city, he got the mechanics to jack it up, it ended up being some kind of heat shield plate that come loose underneath the car, they just put a quick weld or something on it and its been fine ever since. Take a look underneath i wasn't there when they did so i can't give ya exact spot info

 Hmmm. Anyone know of a heat shield? I'll try and take a look for it. It's really strange that mine is REALLY noticable when it is stone cold and then about goes away when everything warms up. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion! :thumbsup:When it heats up the heat shield could be expanding enough to put enough pressure on it to stop moving. Just a thought

wow dude iam goin to take a stab here, could it be bearing plate?? mounting plates???? brake pads rattling in the caliper mount bracket?? seen that before, steering shaft making a clunking noise seen that
ball joints but you say you have a vibration..........is it when braking?? if it is the rotors are shot, vibration after takin a pot hole.......struts are shot, bad tires will give vibration............i dunno dude just stabbin in the dark for ya but those are my guess`s for your problem

I have the same sound. I know I read a TSB about it a while back that said to replace the front upper springseats (sorry the technical term escapes me at the moment). Something about some not fitting well. It's been a while since I read it sorry.
