on a mission to find out whats wrong with my car, i found i had F***** strut mounts and bearing plates, groves gouged in the plate, from the the mount seating and unseating itself. i found in a different post, a theory its because the new springs are so much shorter, there isn't enough tension to keep the mounts inplace with the car up

so of course i know i need to replace these, but whats to stop it from happening again?

so here is my question to all alero owners

who has drop springs WITH problems, and who has them WITHOUT problems?
PLEASE include the brand of spring and type of car (year and sedan/coupe)...like H&R, intrax, sprintech, eibach, etc etc. i only seem to see the problems on the larger drop springs, not so much on the eibachs, probably because the eibachs are taller than other springs, and stiffer

I have a 2001 GLS 4 door........spring tech/kyb's, horrilbe popping noises, creak from the left front strut, and of course, deystroyed mounts....which were fine before i changed springs 1 month ago

i have eibach's and the only "problem" i have is a rattling from the passenger side rear when i go over bumps. when i have other people in the car with me it is not as bad.

oh i have a 2000 gls 2 dr

1999 Alero GLS coupe with Alero Intrax springs and Kyb struts with absolutely no problems. I can jack the car up sky f***in high if I want, and they will stay in place.

I seriously think anyone that has problem with springs unseating themselves installed them wrong in the first place.

Ditto! Except I have Springtechs. The same rattling at the right rear but gone with peeps in the back or the trunk loaded. I have a 2003 2dr.

well when i took them off today, the springs were right at the bumpers where they were supposed to be. everything looked fine, springs were were they were when i took them off.

when i get new mounts, im going to apply a thick coat of grease between the mount and the bearing plate, to act as a buffer while the mounts "seat" themselves...

now that i think of it, i only had like 1 loud pop every once in a while. a month later i still had that noise. i read a few posts here saying i should loosen the nuts while the fronts in the air, turn the wheels back and forth, then tighten the nuts. when i did that, the problem got quite a bit worse, probably because i unseated the mounts <_< i also tried doing it after, with the front end on the ground

anyone else with or without problems?

Intrax with kyb's had a popping noise for aprox a month, left the car on the ground loosened the top plates and turned wheels stop to stop a few times set center retorqued, no problems since! but i also run struttower braces front and rear so my chassis is stiffer if that makes any difference?

Just sprint tech springs, and I have the 00' GL 4dr. No problems besides the rear assemblys creek when I go over bumps, and I scrape on every freakin speed bump I come across.

Springtech springs and KYB struts, I have had no problems so far. They don't seem to come unseated at all when I raise the car up.

i think the problem might be the stock struts

Spring Tech Springs, Stock struts, not a problem. I have had my car with all 4 tires in the air about 10-12 times (exhaust and CAI work, tire rotations/exchanges) and had each indivdual wheel in the air somewhere around 16-20 times each (no joke, I had rim problems and kept having to change my tires back and forth...then there is the drag racing tire changes).

I have the usual rattling sounds in my back end from the struts being to long for the springs, and some creaking out of the front bushings on wet days, but thats it.

I plan to get kyb struts and rsm solid bushings this spring.

Why is it that if you have high miles you need new struts before you get springs?

its wierd, TONS of gagt owners have the same popping noise i got. i guess ill get some new strut mounts, and go again, this time laying the grease in there pretty thick

anyone know the cheapest place to get strut mount/bearing plates? checkers wants 78, and i have to order them, so i might as well get them online

Same here. I got springtech's and get the same noise from the R/R, but mostly when I have passengers. Doesn't make too much noise with just me in the car.
When I first put the springs on I had a lot of rattling from the left front, turned out the bearing plate didn't seat correctly. It got a little beaten up, but I smothed it out a little on a grinder at work. Sometime I hear some noises from the front and I'll spray a little white lithium grease into the upper strut mounts from under the hood. So far so good, if I talk about it any more something expensive will probably take a poop.
