I've been looking into switching over to satellite radio, SIRIUS inparticular, for the last month or so and was wondering if anyone has it and how you like it. Also for anyone that has it or knows a lot about it I had a Question for you. I have a Pioneer HU which is compatible with XM but if I want to get SIRIUS would I have to buy a whole new HU or is there a way to run either company through any HU?

Thanks for your help guys.

Pioneer HU's use XM exclusively. So far, I have no complaints about my XM. I listen to it all the time and I will really listen to it next year when they will be broadcasting every MLB game. Anway, you will have to change HU's or go with XM.

Go w/ XM...:

more music channels
college football
MLB baseball
CHEAPER
easier to use
better looking/smaller units (unless u go dedicated through your Pioneer then you won't have ANY units visible)

That's just my 2 cents....I sell both Sirius and XM every day at work (Best Buy) and literally, the ONLY people I recommend Sirius to are the NFL crazy fans...that's it. If you want it more for music purposes, go XM all the way.

You can go to Best Buy and get the XM tuner box/antenna and the BUS cable for your Pioneer for $100 total.

that's IF you want it to be dedicated through your HU...you can still the the Plug & Play units from Sirius that mount separately on your dash (ugly as hell IMO..but do-able).

I know JVC makes decks that are Sirius ready, and we sell a BUS cable and XM box at best buy that allows a Sirius Ready JVC deck to have XM put on it, but nothing to have an XM ready deck have Sirius on it (yet).

^^Yeah, I forgot about the piggyback system you can use. Damn, I wish I had only paid $100 for my XM receiver. I paid like $150 for the receiver and $50 for the antenna at Circuit City. Oh well, most of it was paid for with a gift card.

I really like my XM. The tuner for a pioneer deck is only $100.

I was thinking about getting satilite radio as well, but the only thing that has really stopped me so far is that I also wanted to be able to listen to it from the internet. You can do that with XM (which is the one I was going to get since I have a pioneer HU), but you have to pay another monthly fee for that. I thought I saw that if you have Sirius you can listen to it online also for no additional charge. Am I correct?

I don't know about Sirius, but XM online is only $3.99/month if you pay for radio already. Sirius is $12.95/month, so even if online is free, you're only up $1 for XM w/ online. Ok, yeah, online streaming of music is free with Sirius. You have to call to get a password.

Oh I thought I saw that Sirius was only $9.99 a month too. Maybe they had it discounted for the first few months or something.

You can pre-pay a full year with Sirius and it is only $120 (9.99/month) But if you pay monthly then it's $12.95.

XM has deals if you prepay at least 2 years... it goes down to less than $9/month.

heres a little hint with sirius. you pay for more time you pay less. i pay for a year at a time and it wound up costing oh around 8 bucks a month. food for thought.
and ive had xm and sirius. theres a reason i still have sirius.

each has their advantages/disadvantages......I don't really call one BETTER than another...it all depends on what the listener like to listen to. If I talk to a customer and they like football, other sports, 80's rock..i'd recommend Sirius....if they like college football, MLB, and all around music listening..i'd recommend XM

XM just tends to be a better deal now especially since they've added college football and MLB coming in the spring....

IMO Sirius is better. I now have them both in my car.... I have XM controlled from my head unit, and I have a Sirius P&P unit that I got for free through a promotion on Siriusbackstage.com.

They both cost $10 a month, but you have to pay a full year in advance with Sirius if you want that price.

Sound is almost identical on both services, so that is no problem. I drop out a bit more with XM around trees and tall buildings, but Sirius drops out too sometimes.

I got XM for Opie & Anthony (which isn't as funny anymore) wich costs more. Sirius will give you Stern for free in a year... but I am not a Stern fan.

Sirius gives you:
Every NFL game from both sides broadcasts
More talk radio (which I listen to most often)
Less commercials
Great looking new P&P units (the new Sportster is the best looking P&P unit)
Free internet streaming
Option to buy lifetime subscription for $400ish
Free Stern

XM gives you:
More Music Channels
O&A
MLB
NCAA football

Neither is really cheaper.... with Sirius, every option is included in the base fee... with XM, you have to pay for all the extra stuff you want like internet streaming and O&A.

Don't let anyone tell you one is better than the other. They are similar but make your decision based on the differences. Like I say, I prefer Sirius, but I enjoy them both.

XM Delphi SkyFi2 unit is awesome...you can pause the music...store up to 30mins of music in the unit..it has a built in FM modulator in the TUNER (not the cradle/carkit) and it looks awesome. It will also work with any older SkyFi1 units (i.e. home kit/boombox)

HAHA..seeing that my dad OWNS the unit and I installed it (along with about 25 others in customers' cars)....I think I know what it can/can't do....we're not commissioned, you know that..there's no need to lie. You had a choice to lie to the customer or not..obviously you did...I dont because I still get paid the same whether they buy it or not.

Just because you didn't like working at Best Buy doesn't mean you can go around calling me (or other workers) a liar...nothing I said WASN'T true....

P.S. You're welcome for getting you those alarm wire colors and notes...I'll be sure NOT to give you any more of my advice/knowledge on car audio/security anymore because obviously I am just "brainwashed" and i might tell you something that actually can't be done.

When I bought the alero it came with a year subscription for free. I thought it was good for the monthly price. I just won't go out and pay for hardware to have it. It seemed like most of the radio stations I listened to (jazz, blue grass, rock, and alternative) were run on a rotation. You could literaly time a song at four oclock on friday to play at four oclock the following week. Granted, it did take about six months for me to realize the repetition. I did love the quality of the sound and great reception. If the radio lost a signal it was back in a matter of seconds. This would normaly happen if the car was next to a tall building. Otherwise is was perfect. I think that I would like xm more if they started to syndicate more local radio stations.

dude, i wasn't calling you a liar, i was refering to how it sounds like your throwing the pre-written best buy sales pitch, i was making a joke.

im not sure, do you work on the sales floor, or in the install bay? either way, being in car audio, your kinda in your own corner were the managers dont really bother you TOO much (at least at the store i worked at) i worked in video, which pushed more big ticket item (revenue big ticket) than any other department. because of this we were constantly hounded by the store managers and department managers, and yes, i was told to lie. i listened in on the "head" senior (a guy who really knew his stuff) selling some fiber optic cable, were 1 of the reasons he gave to get the monster over AR is because of the superior shielding. after that customer left, i went up to him, and was like wow....how can you flat out lie to a customer to sell somthing, and i explained it, he's like i know, but you need to say what they need to hear to buy the product, it is a better product, so im not lieing in that aspect, and if id take a few notes i could boost my accesories sales. i was like i refuse to sell my integrity for bestbuy, this sparked a somewhat large arguement by this time, i had a full time job somewhere else, so i didn't care. things like this happened more than once.

i only worked 10 hours a week, because of my other job, and the managers hated this, but my operations manager approved my availablility. THEN the ass managers started somesort of scorecard sheet, GRADING us on our ability to sell. for the hours i worked i outsold everyone except the 2 managers and 1 full time. my accessories weren't quite as high, but i sold alot of monster junk. they gave me CRAPPY gradding, and threatened to move me to recieving if i didn't pick it up...well i argued with them, that i outsold other people who didn't get threatened a transfer....there response? i have more potential, more product knowledge, if id hope on the bandwagon (push monster/psp's/ lie more ) i could do better, i didn't show "team spirit". i had people that would come in and only buy from me, why? because i didn't give the typical sales pitch, i gave the facts, and i knew more facts than all the other part-timers, and all but 1 fulltimer. i sold over 50k to 1 guy alone, who was still comming in to buy things, but only from me. i had customers buying anywhere from 1-5k personally seeking out the store manager to tell them how knowledgable i was, and how i wasn't overly pushy like othersalesman (but they still left with ALOT of crap/accessories)

so i told him i dont need this job, and i left.

ever hear of bestbuysucks.com? bestbuy treats employee's like ass, thats common knowledge, and yes they do there hardest to brainwash employees with the typical, were not on commission, why would we lie? line. your not on commission because they want a bigger profit

i never said all bestbuy employees lie, no, i think a good deal of the managers/seniors do whatever it takes to push rev. but you know that your told to push stuff till they feel dumb for not getting it, or try to, THOSE words came from more than 1 of our GM's, sales managers and department managers (yea, we went through a few)

"P.S. You're welcome for getting you those alarm wire colors and notes...I'll be sure NOT to give you any more of my advice/knowledge on car audio/security anymore because obviously I am just "brainwashed" and i might tell you something that actually can't be done."

i said thanks......seriously, grow up....jeez
