im replacing my 6x9's with a set of 8" Soundstream exacts, which can be used Free-air (no box, but the air in the front has to be isolated from the air in the rear of the woofer). overall sub diameter is 8.5", cutout is 7.25" so far i only have 1 put in, ill try to take a few pics with my camera phone...lol

they BARELY fit, i mean BARELY, if i had 1/2" less, they wouldn't, i dont think they'd fit if i had 1/4" less, unless you cut out those 2 spring type bars used to hold up the trunk, and use a shock type strut in its place

i had to cut alot of sheetmetal out of the back dash, i originally cut the holes bigger for my 6x9's, and moutned them to the back dash, so there's a somewhat large airgap ill have to seal off, and of course ill silicone everything to make it as airtight as possible. i mounted the subs to 8.75x10" 3/4" mdf plates

im hoping to get it all mounted tonight, and maybe start to seal it off, then hook it all up on thursday

im really excited how it will sound, soundstream exacts are supposed to be very high quality SQ woofers, and 8's should give me a good mix of sub/midbass, i really need to pick up a bass mechanics cd to tune everything

only thing im worried about, i have 4" exacts up front (components) and these 8's in the back, i may need a rear fill in the midrange-high's area...not sure i have these 6x9's and a set of 5.25 coax's, but i dont know were to put them. there isn't really room inbetween the woofers, except for maybe 1 5" speaker, so i may go that route, im undecided on what to do, 1 thing at a time i guess

Yeah id like to know how it sounds compared to the 6x9's back there. Depending on the sound quality i would also think about mounting some thing like 6x9's 2 way or 3ways somewhere.... :) good luck and let us know

Nice work on squeezing them in ther :)

Having just woofers will most likely sound lame...
Make a custom rear deck to hold your 8's and either some componants, or coaxials prolly a 5.25 would be sufficant

Having just woofers in the back sounds just fine. That's how i have it in my Chevy and i think it's supposed to make for a better soundstage!

i tried to take some pics, but in the garage it just didn't work (and its dark outside) im not 100% done yet, about 80%, so ill try to take some pics in the daylight

i really dont know what it will sound like without "rear fill" for midrange and up. i am planning on somthing back there, but im not sure yet. it looks like i only have room to mount 1 5.25" speaker in between the two subs. i COULD fit 2, because i have 12" of sheetmetal, like 15" between the subs, but i dont know if i want to cut up the rear deck that much, couldn't that hurt the structural integrity? i dont know... i think i may get a rear STB to make up for the holes i made, they were quite large, that and i had already made them bigger than stock to fit aftermarket 6x9's mounted right to the dash.

so i have a set of 5.25" coax's, and 6x9's. i think the 6x9's are to big to put anywhere though

think you could get away with just mounting 2 tweets up there somewhere, might be easier.... the 2 8s wont be that low....? do u have subs in the trunk?

i have a 2door and was thinking of mounting 4inch coaxials in the 2 rear panels by the back armrests, the 2 pieces covered by the cloth that are supposed to look like part of the seats. if you take them out you can see theres just foam behind them, and there's lots of room on them, prolly enough for 5 1/4s even. what do you guys think. I wanted to do it because i seem to be lacking mids, with my 3 10's in the trunk its hard to hear voice in the few songs i like that actually have singing.

ive got a 4 door, and i took a quick look at the doors, and it doesn't look like it be able to put them in there and have them look good. if they did fit somehow i could try and spraypaint the grilles the factory tan color, or try to pick up a set of tan grilles...im trying to make it look stock, so far it will look 100% stock except the amp mounted to the back of the seat, im going to try to make a cover to cover up the majority of that, with only the controls being accessible.

im going to mount the single 5.25" in the rear deck in the middle. it should provide sufficient rear fill. if it doesn't, ill see if i can squeeze a single 6x9 in there, or the 2 5's, but i think 1 5 will be suffice. ive got plenty of power to feed it, way more than ill use, if i blow it, ive always got another :D

here's a pic, all i had was my camera phone, but it gives a basic idea
