im replacing my 6x9's with a set of 8" Soundstream exacts, which can be used Free-air (no box, but the air in the front has to be isolated from the air in the rear of the woofer). overall sub diameter is 8.5", cutout is 7.25" so far i only have 1 put in, ill try to take a few pics with my camera phone...lol
they BARELY fit, i mean BARELY, if i had 1/2" less, they wouldn't, i dont think they'd fit if i had 1/4" less, unless you cut out those 2 spring type bars used to hold up the trunk, and use a shock type strut in its place
i had to cut alot of sheetmetal out of the back dash, i originally cut the holes bigger for my 6x9's, and moutned them to the back dash, so there's a somewhat large airgap ill have to seal off, and of course ill silicone everything to make it as airtight as possible. i mounted the subs to 8.75x10" 3/4" mdf plates
im hoping to get it all mounted tonight, and maybe start to seal it off, then hook it all up on thursday
im really excited how it will sound, soundstream exacts are supposed to be very high quality SQ woofers, and 8's should give me a good mix of sub/midbass, i really need to pick up a bass mechanics cd to tune everything
only thing im worried about, i have 4" exacts up front (components) and these 8's in the back, i may need a rear fill in the midrange-high's area...not sure i have these 6x9's and a set of 5.25 coax's, but i dont know were to put them. there isn't really room inbetween the woofers, except for maybe 1 5" speaker, so i may go that route, im undecided on what to do, 1 thing at a time i guess
