the tranny in the cav, sunfires is the same tranny.

far as pedals and shifter, etc you would need out of an alero or grand am. or you could get the part numbers and order from the factory.

What about the center dash piece? Could I modify the one I have, or would I have to find a manual alero?

far as the center console part you would need a new or used one.

you would also need to get the PCM out of a 5-speed car.

You can get a used 282 getrag from carparts.com for a few hundred bucks. then you need the PCM, linkages, pedals, etc, etc. If you use the tranny from a J-bod I believe they have different mounts, not sure thou. [/b][/quote]
False, the PCM controls all aspects of the powertrain and the ECU only controls the engine.

actualy an ecu is an Electronic Controll Unit and they are used for many things including drive trains they are not just used for the engine

in his context ECU is an engine control unit, not an electronic control unit and the PCM, or powertrain control module, acts as a superset of the ECU, which is an older "concept" so to type...The ECU also acts as a superset of the FMU and the ignition systems both of which I have built as stand alone units on my other car.
