Hey everyone I'm a newbie w/ my alero. It's taken the place of a broken down Pontiac Bonneville, a much needed replacement. I have been checking out your how to section and have been pumping myself up to clear the corners out, but kinda nervous, but I've seen the pics. of you guys on here and most of you say it's pretty easy so I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it once the crappy weather here in Kansas is over or do you guys think it would make much of a difference on the final product if I do it when its cold outside???? And are SilverStars the general concensus as to the best light bulbs w/out going HID. Once I clear the corners I plan on using the Silverstar side marker bulbs, anyone have any other recommendations for side marker bulbs???? Thanks guys

i'm sure you've read the oven trick, it works the best, but a heat gun/hair dryer will suffice.

you said the oven trick i've been thinking of doin that you think 200 for 15 minutes is too high???
FormulaNERD
12-15-2004, 05:51 PM
i'd preheat it to 240, and then turn it off and slap them in there for about 5-10 min, if the silicone isnt gummy enough to pull apart, you could try 200 with them in there. just not too long. if you wnat to leave them in with it on do 150-180

Welcome to the boards Pimpin, pay attention to Formula, he's been around the block a few times, and well, others have not.
Smlz, what size are those rims? This is the 1st time I've seen your ride, and they look pretty big in your sig. They 18's? Nice ride !

thanks for the probs YB
with exhaust, i beg you dont get a fart can, do what you want, but this is just my advice.
if you wanna go with the deep sound, you can get the SLP for ease of installation (DIY) or a custom setup with flowmaster for about the same price, if you do get custom, make sure the shop does MANDREL bends. if not go somewhere else.
lemme know if i need to explain anything, i dont want to treat you like you're stupid if i dont have to. ;)

I was looking for a more aggressive sounding exhaust that actually added some proformance to the car like I said its a 4 door 2.4 so I need all the help I can get.
Smlz, its good to hear that someone is relatively close to me.
Also how hard do you guys think it'd be to get some 19's that fit my friends 99 4 door galant any thoughts????

hey formula thanks for the info I really appreciate it. I'm not completely uneducated w/ cars but not a whole lot of experience w/ the proformance parts, so if you have to explain something to me like a child sometime I apologize in advance, but you say SLP or flowmaster custom do you have any idea a price range on those or is it a dependant matter???

I got my rims at Weld Wheel (I think it's on the MO side) and they have really good prices, at least for mine. If they don't stock it , they'll get it for ya, fast.

As far as the exhaust goes, just about anything sounds nice on the Alero, whether it is a six or four. What ever you want to buy, go for it. 19's will fit your car, but that's the limit.

Hey Pimpin, with regards to your friend's Galant: If he has internet access, tell him to search around for a Galant forum like this one, or pretty much any Mitsu / DiamondStar site would be able to help him aswell. That way, he'll be informed on lots of various mods, maintinance procedures, how-to's etc. I'm sure the people that congregate @ those forums would know the suspension geometry hands-down.
With a quick search, I found a Galant riding on Enkei 19's, but there's no mention of suspension work. As far as that goes, there's no mention of anything, so take that with a grain of salt. Galant on 19's (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/553854) It can be done, but I dunno it it takes suspension mods to make it happen. When your friend goes to purchase his wheels, make sure he researches wheel and tire width, aswell as wheel backspacing, as BOTH numeric values will effect whether or not the vehicle can handle the wheels and still operate and drive like it should.
Hope this helps.

ok guy, if you know your poop as well as all these people say, you would know that there are only two stages an oven can be on. heated and unheated. no such thing as preheated. yes i know the term is used and accepted but it doesnt make it right.

George Carlin is by-FAR the best comedian IMO. If you get a chance, pick up a copy of his book "Braindroppings" It's hysterical bro. Also check out his older stuff. his album "Class Clown" is my favorite.

What about the stage of heating up? You don't just push a button and bam its 400 degrees.
To "preheat" an oven is to heat it to the right temp before you put anything into it. A "preheated" oven means that the act of heating the oven to the desired temp before putting anything in was done.
So, it is right. Even if Formula made a mistake.

i guess you have never heard that george carlin routine and missed the joke totally. oh well.
preheated is a term that just doesnt make sense. you turn the oven on, sure it doesnt go immediately to 200 degrees but is it not heated when its at say 100 degrees? i'd say thats pretty hot. you dont preheat the oven before you put something in, you heat (notice the lack of the prefix pre) it up til its at the desired temp and then put it in. you show me a "preheated" oven and i will show you a premelted ice cube.
basically what im saying is that "pre" is used all over our language but most applications dont make sense if you think about it. if you still dont understand lets take a look at another example. lets say you are at the airport and they say "we'd like to begin the preboarding". wtf does that mean? get on the plane before you get on the plane???

WOW, well I guess I better know my poop as far as grammar goes you guys are like pitbulls. I get the general idea though, but as to George Carlin being the best comedian ever I'd have to say Richard Prior is right up there with him. But thanks for all the love guys I can tell I'm gonna enjoy being around here. Thanks for the tips I'm gonna try to get some of my car pics up but, I'm doing all this at my work computer so I gotta keep it low key but I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Jackal2000 OMG
You can preheat an oven by heating it before you put anything in it.
That's what pre is for. Preboarding a plane is for special peeps who get on the plane before the other passengers. No response necessary.
PimpinGad, I am sorry for all this pooptiness in your thread :( ...please forgive me. :)

You guys are funnier than ish but, kansas isn't as much of a hick state as you'd think so my grammar is tight as a frogs ace Anyone got any suggestions for mods I should do as prep before I add a B&M Shiftplus or can I just do it???? Thanks for the help, Joshua

i understand why the word is used (its for all you prefix crazy people) but they still dont make sense. i dont personally own an oven but i dont think there is a knob on it that says preheat. here's another..."this program was prerecorded". wtf :huh?: you gonna record it afterwards?? drop the prefix and it makes sense. "this program was recorded".
