View Full Version : Wheel Spin Sensor

In the last year, my car has had both the wheel spin sensors go bad. What happens when this sensor goes bad is as soon the car is put in reverse and moveed, the ABS, Trac-Off, and Service Engine Soon lights all come on at the same time. When I took the car to the dealer they looked at it and determined that the left front wheel spin sensor was bad. Now the right front sensor went bad, just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I have the stock wheels with the covers and I don't drive my car to death, so I don't understand why both would go bad within months of each other. Good thing my warranty paid for the sensor to be replaced :) , last time the tab was about $600 for one sensor. $150 for the part and the rest in labor.

I've had that happen a lot lately, never heard of the wheel spin sensor, though. And my Service Engine Soon light doesn't come on it's the Service Vehicle Soon light, think that's a different problem? I think a lot of people have had this problem.

Oops, I meant to type "Service Vehicle Soon" light not "Service Engine Soon".

Now that I think about it, the guy at the dealer said the computer returned that something else went bad in the hub too. I don't know if it's the hub itself, or another part. I understand that the last time this happened the reason the cost was so high was because of the time it took to take the hub apart and replace the sensor. When I get the repair list, I will post what was bad.

ive never heard of them just replacing the sensor, normally they just replace the whole hub......

Well the cars back from the dealer. First, they do replace the hub when a sensor is bad. Also, my fan motor was replaced, the last couple settings didn't work. Another reason I took it in was my drivers window switch wouldn't go down. They had to replace the whole switch assembly. Best part, my warranty paid for all repairs

Hey, bman, how much did it run to replace the hub? I got the same poop going on and I should prolly get it done soon.

I had that same problem 4 times within about a year. It seems like it happens in the winter months when everything is wet and cold. All of the wiring went bad in the right wheel each time. Luckliy it hasn't happened since Feb. for me. My bill was only about 200 dollars covered by the warranty. I hope everything works out for you.

I don't mean to crap up the htread, but nice ride Fantom. how's that flip-flop trunk mod treatin' ya? I've heard horror stories about doing that mod, and never met anyone that's actually done it that didn't regret it.

EDIT Oh yeah. Before I forget. Welcome to the boards. B)

smlzalero, the cost for replacing the hub is around $200. $150 for the part, and $50 for the labor. It seems to me too that this problem occurs more when its cold out, like other members said.

That sounds right on the mark, bman. Mine's been acting up since Early november. <_<

It's really strange how the computer reports the problem. When I first put the car in reverse after its been sitting, the warning lights come on. But for several more days, sometimes weeks, nothing will warn at all  . But the computer stores that there is a bad sensor, its like the computer tells me when it wants to. The person at the dealer told me once, that when you turn the key off, certian warnings won't show until the next time it detects a problem, but it records when a problem happened.

Well, mine started last year in the winter, but stopped in summer, now it's back since Sept. The manual says to shut the car off then restart it and it will go away. It always did, but a week or so later it would do it again.

Only recently has it started coming on when I back out of the drive or backing out at work. I wasn't worried before, but now I keep seeing more and more that it's a big problem and it should be fixed ASAP.

I had the same problem. I never fixed it, it just went away I guess. I was backing up once and all the same lights turned on, and onces and while my security light will just comes on which is my ignition which I never really fixed.

I dont regret doing the flip-flop trunk at all. The only difficult part is realigning the bolts, but I marked it so it's all good. It has never leaked on me. It gets a lot of good reactions at car shows.

And having "too many mods to list", I'm just started out this year and i have put a lot of work and new parts on it. I didn't feel like typing everything, so I wrote that. If you want a list of my mods go to http://www.fantomforce.com/tommysalero.html

Now about the thread. In Pittsburgh, it has dropped into the single digits this past week and I have had no problems. I think it is because this year I have kept my car in the garage since the beginning of November. Last year it sat outside all winter.

how can you tell which hub it is? im having the same issue again, but i want to replace it myself, dealerships cost too much when your warranty just runs out.
