Well it finally happend today, went to put on the heater and noticed that the first 3 seetings didnt work. I staring laughing.

just a quick question, can i just replace the resistors or do i have to order another bord from GM. (My local GM dealer is 8,000 miles away.)

Anyone know the resistor values..?

mine is doing that right now as well. You should just need to replace the resistor. Here in Ottawa it is only like 15-20 dollars from the dealer. and according to a friend of mine it is very easy to replace yourself. Maybe someone could enlighten us on replacement.

i know when mine went out, the entire board was fried black...my guess is urs is the same way, plus after all said and done, ur only gonna save about 5-10$ after u get those resistors and solder em in and spend the time doing it, whereas it takes about a couple minutes to replace the board, although i forget exactly where it is, its been over a year since mine went out

You may want to either order it from gmpartsdirect.com or find a friendly member here who is willing to ship one out to you. (they are small and light, should be cheap enough)

Im going to have to get someone from the states to send me one. i just went to gmpartsdirect.com and as i was about to order it it tells me that
We currently only ship to U.S. postal street addresses. We do not ship to international addresses.

gonna try GM in germany, i know they sell the alero in europe so they got to have this part, i hope

It would be no problem to replace the whole unit. It is only held up by four bolts underneath and behind the glove box. The only difficult thing is the angle to reach it. It kind of puts a strain on you, but other than that, it's about as hard as replacing your air filter.

i get what hes saying though.......if it keeps burning up dont you think they would use a resistor with a higher wattage rating.....i havent had problems with it yet, i dont use the AC all that much, its not hot enough nor cold enough in ca, its either windows up or windows down......

Is it 4 bolts or just 2. I thought I remembered 2.

^ I've taken my glovebox out before. there are 4 bolts. 2 on the top, underneath the upper edge of the door, and under the whole dash assembly near the hinges of the box.

I just replaced this before Christmas.
I hope you have a small body and hands. The bolts are a pain in the ass to take out (Well, one of them anyways) :pissed:
You will have to take out a bunch of screws to take off the plastic cover. These are all easily accessible. Then there's 2 bolts holding the resistor board. The one further in the back is really hard to take out due to the way the floor plastic bends in that area. You can't get a straight tool in there.

So Crolero, you have one already? sorry, but I never saw this thread until now. If you don't already have one, or have one coming, I'll gladly track one down and ship it out to ya. B)
