Taking Side Mirrors Apart

My Grand Am has real Alero mirrors, so I am gonna ask here.
Has anyone tried to take the side mirrors apart? Does the glass with the black plastic ring around it come out as one piece easily? Thanks.

I have taken the glass out of mine before and if you just pull on it the glass pops out really easy just make sure when you put it back together that it is back in there right becuase mine wasnt and when I shut my door it fell off and thank god I didnt break it.

What is left behind when you take the glass out? Did you just take a flat screwdriver and dig it? Did you use glue to put it back in?

Your mirrors bend back and forth(impact resistant)? GM used to put dual post(similar to 97-03 Grand Prix ones) on Grand Am's, but they switched to oval ones that look like Alero's. But it's all one piece. I am glad I ended up getting real Alero ones.

I guess I dont get your question. Are you just asking how to take the mirror apart or just how to get the glass out? To get the mirror apart grab onto the piece that the glass for the mirror itself is glued to and pull and you will get the whole mounting piece then the piece after that is held in with 4 screws. To just get the glass out if it broken or something get all the other chunks out of glass with a screwdriver or somehting then glue the new glass in place. I hope you get what iam saying I confuse people alot.

This is what I am trying to install. I just read the installation directions and it tells me to route the wire around the edge of the glass, but I am thinking about drilling a hole on the mirror so I can maybe put the wire through it for better look. I guess I just need to know if there is an easy way to just take the glass out WITH the black border aruond it.

I know what your doing and I dont like it...j/k anyways why not just run the wire thru the door by taking off that panel taht holds the tweeter and put it thru the current wire hole. :thumbsup:

yea what agt said......you dont need to take the mirror off i dont think just the tweeter trim, or even taking the whole side mirror off to work on off the car be easier, its like only a few bolts and the wire harness.....
