Passenger Side Seatbelt Question

So my passenger side seatbelt likes to lock when I am driving and it drives my girlfriend nuts. By locking I mean when on some cars, I think some ford cars have them, by pulling all the way on the seatbelt and have the seatbelt lock as if I slammed on the brakes, but not doing that, i think its for a car seat, or restaining children, unsure though. My question is has anyone else heard of this, and am I making sense? and is this feature on the alero or is my seatbelt all messed up, or is this a normal thing and im just goin to have to tell my g/f she is f-ed when she drives in my car.

you mean at all time sit locks up even if you dont have slight pressure on the brake pedal? :blink:

yeah, we will just be driving and it will lock, as if i slammed on the brakes. But the interesting thing is that it sometimes doesnt release and we have to wait and wait. I just thought it was interesting, that this occurs. Any suggestions?

The seat belt retractor probably has to be replaced. There is a little swinging weight in there (pendulum) that swings and locks on sudden stops or quick acceleration. It's suppose to release once the sudden force is no longer there. I don't know if you can repair it once you have it off. Maybe try spraying it with WD40. To remove, you are going to have to remove the front lower quarter trim panel, then the front seat shoulder belt guide cover, then the seat belt guide bolt (this bolt has a little plastic cover over it), then the belt guide. Then remove the front seat belt anchor bolt. Then remove the seat belt retractor bolt. Pull upward on the retractor assembly in order to disengage it from the car.
